Perry Miller and Recent American Historiography

Much less noted than the passing of President Kennedy, but also a grievous loss in the United States in 1963, was the death of one of its greatest historians. Although Perry Miller was not technically an historian – he was Professor of American Literature at Harvard – his contribution to our understanding of the American past was as great as that of any man of his generation.
