Let I be an ideal of a commutative Noetherian local ring R, and M and N two finitely generated modules. Let t be a positive integer. We mainly prove that (i) if HIi(M,N) is Artinian for all i<t, then HIi(M,N) is I-cofinite for all i<t and Hom(R/I,HIt(M,N)) is finitely generated; (ii) if d=pd(M)<∞ and dim N=n<∞, then HId+n(M,N) is I-cofinite. We also prove that if M is a nonzero cyclic R-module, then HIi(N) is finitely generated for all i<t if and only if HIi(M,N) is finitely generated for all i<t.

A radical α has the Amitsur property if α(A[x])=(α(A[x])∩A)[x] for all rings A. For rings R⊆S with the same unity, we call S a finite centralizing extension of R if there exist b1,b2,…,bt∈S such that S=b1R+b2R+⋯+btR and bir=rbi for all r∈R and i=1,2,…,t. A radical α is FCE-friendly if α(S)∩R⊆α(R) for any finite centralizing extension S of a ring R. We show that if α is a supernilpotent radical whose semisimple class contains the ring ℤ of all integers and α is FCE-friendly, then α has the Amitsur property. In this way the Amitsur property of many well-known radicals such as the prime radical, the Jacobson radical, the Brown–McCoy radical, the antisimple radical and the Behrens radical can be established. Moreover, applying this condition, we will show that the upper radical 𝒰(*k) generated by the essential cover *k of the class * of all *-rings has the Amitsur property and 𝒰(*k)(A[x])=𝒰(*k)(A)[x], where a semiprime ring R is called a *-ring if the factor ring R/I is prime radical for every nonzero ideal I of R. The importance of *-rings stems from the fact that a *-ring A is Jacobson semisimple if and only if A is a primitive ring.

In this paper we get different characterizations of the spherical strictly pseudoconvex CR manifolds admitting a CR-symmetric Webster metric by means of the Tanaka–Webster connection and of the Riemannian curvature tensor. As a consequence we obtain the classification of the simply connected, spherical symmetric pseudo-Hermitian manifolds.

Moudafi and Maingé [Towards viscosity approximations of hierarchical fixed-point problems, Fixed Point Theory Appl. (2006), Art. ID 95453, 10pp] and Xu [Viscosity method for hierarchical fixed point approach to variational inequalities, Taiwanese J. Math.13(6) (2009)] studied an implicit viscosity method for approximating solutions of variational inequalities by solving hierarchical fixed point problems. The approximate solutions are a net (xs,t) of two parameters s,t∈(0,1), and under certain conditions, the iterated lim t→0lim s→0xs,t exists in the norm topology. Moudafi, Maingé and Xu stated the problem of convergence of (xs,t) as (s,t)→(0,0) jointly in the norm topology. In this paper we further study the behaviour of the net (xs,t); in particular, we give a negative answer to this problem.

In this paper, we consider the existence of nontrivial solutions for the nonlinear fractional differential equation boundary-value problem (BVP) where 1<α≤2, η∈(0,1),β∈ℝ=(−∞,+∞), βηα−1≠1, Dα is the Riemann–Liouville differential operator of order α, and f:[0,1]×ℝ→ℝ is continuous, q(t):[0,1]→[0,+∞) is Lebesgue integrable. We give some sufficient conditions for the existence of nontrivial solutions to the above boundary-value problems. Our approach is based on the Leray–Schauder nonlinear alternative. Particularly, we do not use the nonnegative assumption and monotonicity on f which was essential for the technique used in almost all existed literature.

We give upper bounds on the Walsh coefficients of functions for which the derivative of order at least one has bounded variation of fractional order. Further, we also consider the Walsh coefficients of functions in periodic and nonperiodic reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces. A lower bound which shows that our results are best possible is also shown.

Jørgensen’s famous inequality gives a necessary condition for a subgroup of PSL(2,ℂ) to be discrete. It is also true that if Jørgensen’s inequality holds for every nonelementary two-generator subgroup, the group is discrete. The sufficient condition has been generalized to many settings. In this paper, we continue the work of Wang, Li and Cao (‘Discreteness criteria for Möbius groups acting on ’, Israel J. Math.150 (2005), 357–368) and find three more (infinite) discreteness criteria for groups acting on ; we also correct a linguistic ambiguity of their Theorem 3.3 where one of the necessary conditions might be vacuously fulfilled. The results of this paper are obtained by using known results regarding two-generator subgroups and a careful analysis of the relation among the fixed point sets of various elements of the group.

It is shown that a rational map of degree at least 2 admits a meromorphic invariant line field if and only if it is conformally conjugate to either an integral Lattès map, a power map, or a Chebyshev polynomial.

We characterize surjective nonexpansive mappings between unit spheres of ℒ∞(Γ)-type spaces. We show that such mappings turn out to be isometries and can be extended to linear isometries on the whole space ℒ∞(Γ).

Let G be a group and let CAutΦ(G)(Z(Φ(G))) be the set of all automorphisms of G centralizing G/Φ(G) and Z(Φ(G)). For each prime p and finite p-group G, we prove that CAutΦ(G)(Z(Φ(G)))≤Inn(G) if and only if G is elementary abelian or Φ(G)=Z(G) and Z(G) is cyclic.

Using variational methods, we obtain the existence of sign-changing solutions for a class of asymptotically linear Schrödinger equations with deepening potential well.

Qualified difference sets (QDS) composed of unions of cyclotomic classes are discussed. An exhaustive computer search for such QDS and modified QDS that also possess the zero residue has been conducted for all powers n=4,6,8 and 10. Two new families were discovered in the case n=8 and some new isolated systems were discovered for n=6 and n=10.

In this paper we introduce 𝒯-noncosingular modules. Rings for which all right modules are𝒯-noncosingular are shown to be precisely those for which every simple right module is injective. Moreover, for any ring R we show that the right R-module R is 𝒯-noncosingular precisely when R has zero Jacobson radical. We also study the 𝒯-noncosingular condition in association with (strongly) FI-lifting modules.

Let n∈ℕ and let A and B be rings. An additive map h:A→B is called an n-Jordan homomorphism if h(an)=(h(a))n for all a∈A. Every Jordan homomorphism is an n-Jordan homomorphism, for all n≥2, but the converse is false in general. In this paper we investigate the n-Jordan homomorphisms on Banach algebras. Some results related to continuity are given as well.

In this paper we clarify and improve the notion of weak braided bialgebra using weak entwining structures. As a main result we show that the notion of weak braided bialgebra can be rewritten in terms of weak entwining structures.

In this paper, we generalize a result of Bennett and Lutzer and give a condition under which a continuously Urysohn space must have a one-parameter continuous separating family.

We investigate the connection between measures of noncompactness of a bounded subset of a given Banach space and the corresponding measures of noncompactness of an ultrapower of this subset. The Kuratowski, Hausdorff and separation measures of noncompactness are considered. We prove that in the first two cases the measures of a subset are equal to the respective measures of ultrapowers of this subset. In the case of separation measure of noncompactness, the equality is not necessarily fulfilled.

The main purpose of this paper is to develop a point-free notion of topological transitivity. First, we define transitive frame maps and transitive completely prime filters in Frm, the category of frames and frame maps. Then we discuss the relationship between these notions in Frm and the notions of topological transitive and transitive points in Top. Finally, we investigate the relationship between transitive frame maps and the existence of transitive completely prime filters.

A characterization of Banach spaces possessing the weak Radon–Nikodým property is given in terms of finitely additive interval functions. Due to that characterization several Banach space valued set functions that are only finitely additive can be represented as integrals.

We discuss here the boundedness of the fractional integral operator Iα and its generalized version on generalized nonhomogeneous Morrey spaces. To prove the boundedness of Iα, we employ the boundedness of the so-called maximal fractional integral operator Ia,κ*. In addition, we prove an Olsen-type inequality, which is analogous to that in the case of homogeneous type.
