Poeciloscytus cognatus, Fieb. (fig. 1) has already been recorded as injuring sugar-beet in Ukraine. In the summer of 1926 an enormous number of these bugs appeared quite unexpectedly in the districts of Poltava and Kharkov and caused great losses. Much attention has been given to methods of control on the plantations, but the following information is only of a preliminary nature and refers partly to the phenology of the insect.
