Summary

The sampling of forage from distinct sites in the pasture and which are then dried and ground separately as replicates for the in sacco technique, is the best procedure for studies of forage evaluation. It permits the evaluation of the true error (variation between blocks of plants) and not the variation between replicates obtained from only one sample of forage dried, ground and then divided between distinct nylon bags (which causes an underestimation of error). Consequently it is possible with only one ruminant to define an experimental design which is simpler, but capable of offering better precision.
