Pasture productivity was studied between August 1977 and July 1978 at five different sites in Kenya's mixed farming regions by harvesting sample plots every 2 months at a standard height (3-4 cm). The content (%) and yield (kg/ha/day) of digestible crude protein was calculated from the results of the proximate analysis using the equation: DCP (%) = 5 + 60 log CP - 0.33 CF. The results were subjected to standard methods of variance and covariance analysis using precipitation as the covariate, since rainfall yields differed considerably among sites and seasons.
