Published online by Cambridge University Press:  01 January 2025

Extract

Distaff and spindle idle laid,

Forth with this tiding, unafraid,

On Jewry’s hills her gracious feet Move like the hind at morning fleet: Quarn felix ea!

Good Zachary, whose lips are dumb, With praiseful heart beholds her come. To greet her runs Elizabeth— Magnificat then Our Lady saith, Anima mea!
