‘Bali Bulletin‘, mixed media, by Fiona Foster
Fiona Foster gained a BA in Sculpture and has had major exhibitions in the UK. She also is an experienced art psychotherapist and has worked in the NHS for over 30 years. ‘Bali Bulletin’ was made after having lived and worked with woodcarvers in Bali. It is typical of her work; using found objects, recycling and transforming them. She uses sculpture to create metaphors and stories with references to historical, political and personal contexts and experiences. ‘Bali Bulletin’ is made from discarded Indonesian mortars and is both bullet shaped and ‘loudspeaker-like’. One might associate it with military/propaganda battles, or voices from inside and outside, or alternative handles the viewer wishes to take on it.
