6. This is perhaps not surprising considering author Dubin, Lois Sherr is an acknowledged bead expert who wrote The History of heads: from 30,000 to the present (N.Y.: H. N. Abrams, 1987). Conversely at least 50% of the subject matter in the Encyclopedia of native American jewelry is devoted to the native cultures of the American Southwest who are major producers of metal jewelry, and has less emphasis on beadwork, a main component of dress ornamentation.Google Scholar
