One of the greatest disasters that has befallen an important historical monument in this country for over half a century was the burning of the Abbey Church of Selby in the early hours of the 20th of October last.

page 420 note a Robert of Malton was clerk of the Pipe of the Exchequer, and by letters patent of 26th February, 1402–3, was appointed parson of St. Botolph's, Aldersgate, in succession to Ralph Kesteven, but he apparently resigned within a few months. He may be the same Robert who was made a Baron of the Exchequer on 14th November, 1413, and confirmed 30th September, 1422.
