page 488 note a It may not be altogether irrelevant to mention, that Mr. W. Anderson at the same time presented to the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland two other matrices; one of brass, the official seal of the Friars Preachers, Perth; the other of copper, the seal of David Strachan, Bishop of Brechin 1661–71. The latter may suggest a clue to the devolution of the Brechin seal above described, since it is not improbable that the old chapter seal may have got into the hands of Bishop Strachan, and the two have come together into the possession of Mr. W. Anderson's deceased brother.
