1 The comparison in size is made by the Commissioners; yet it should be remarked that Wolsey's hall at Christ Church, Oxford, was longer than Henry VIII's at Hampton Court, but still not so long as that at Stirling.
2 The excavators of 1864, who are mentioned in the inventory, did not recognize its character. As an act of piety, it should be placed on record that the correct identification was first made by Joseph Anderson (who is not mentioned) in his Rhind Lectures of 1881.
