Effect of sex and birth status on the wool follicle population in unselected Corriedale sheep
Published online by Cambridge University Press: 02 September 2010
Abstract
The follicle population of 44 purebred 20-month-old Corriedale ewes and rams was examined for effects due to sex and birth status. Twin birth resulted in a lower ratio of secondary to primary follicles at 20 months of age in these medium follicle-density animals. This effect is similar to that reported for the high follicle-density Australian Merino. Similarly, the ewes had a lower ratio of secondary to primary follicles than the rams.
