Notes
1. The authors do not discuss their choices for reproduction. It appears that most of the photos were taken from contemporary prints or from published reproductions. They therefore show significant fading, scratching, and spotting. Many people appreciate the aesthetic effect of aging, judging by the marketing of a computer software program that simulates these effects; however, printing from the original negatives (whenever possible) or digital enhancement could provide a significant increase in photographic “information.”
