X-Ray Generation by Proton Bombardment

Abstract

Some of the characteristics of X-ray generation by proton bombardment are described. With work still in progress, it has been proven that this method is particularly suitable for soft X-rays >10 Å. Excitation efficiencies equal or excel electron excitation efficiencies, while the resulting spectrum consists of a single characteristic radiation line, but with complete absence of bremsstrahlung. Experimental results, the design of an instrument, and some applications are discussed.
