Summary

The first royal writ

Rex venerabili in Christo patri custodi spiritualitatis archiepiscopatus Cantuariensis sede vacante salutem. Cum super reformatione pacis et concordiae inter nos et nostros subditos ex parte una et Robertum de Brus ac magnates et alios de Scotia ex altera ceteris nuntiis ex utraque parte missis nuper apud Novum Castrum super Tynam habitus fuisset tractatus, ac in eodem tractatu ceteri articuli sint expositi reformationem praedictam contingentes, super quibus et aliis coronam nostram tangentibus, parliamentum nostrum apud Eboracum die Dominica proxima post festum Purificationis Beatae Mariae Virginis proximo futurum [7 February 1328] tenere ac vobiscum et cum ceteris praelatis, magnatibus et proceribus regni nostri colloquium et deliberationem habere volumus et tractatum, vobis mandamus in fide et dilectione quibus nobis tenemini firmiter iniungentes quod omnibus aliis praetermissis, dictis die et loco personaliter intersitis nobiscum et cum ceteris praelatis et proceribus regni nostri super praemissis tractaturi vestrumque consilium impensuri, praemunientes priorem et capitulum ecclesiae vestrae Cantuariensis, archidiaconos totumque clerum vestrae diocesis, quod iidem prior et archidiaconi in propriis personis suis dictumque capitulum per unum, idemque clerus per duos procuratores idoneos plenam et sufficientem potestatem ab ipsis capitulo et clero habentes, dictis die et loco intersint, ad faciendum et consentiendum his quae tune ibidem de communi consilio divina favente dementia ordinari contigerit super negotiis antedictis, et hoc nullatenus omittatis. Teste meipso apud Coventry, decimo die Decembris anno regni nostri primo [10 December 1327].

A similar writ was sent to the bishops of the province and to the following abbots: Westminster, St Albans, Peterborough, Ramsey, Glastonbury, St Augustine Canterbury, St Edmunds, Leicester, Thornton on Humber, Gloucester, Hyde by Winchester, Rewley, Malmesbury, Abingdon, Reading, Cirencester and Evesham.

A second writ was sent to the keeper of the spiritualities of Canterbury, replacing the praemunientes clause with the following:

Et licet singulis episcopis praedictis iniunxerimus quod quilibet eorum praemuniri faciat priores, decanos et capitula ecclesiarum suarum cathedralium, necnon archidiaconos et clerum suarum diocesium, et quod iidem priores, decani et archidiaconi in propriis personis suis et quodlibet capitulorum praedictorum per unum, clerumque cuiuslibet diocesis per duos procuratores sufficientem potestatem ab ipsis capitulis et clero habentes sint in dicto die apud locum praedictum ad consentiendum his quae tune ibidem de communi consilio regni nostri contigerit ordinari,
