Wednesday 28 April 1708

[ 1 r] Thomas, providentia divina Cantuariensis archiepiscopus totius Angliae primas et metropolitanus, venerabili confratri nostro Domino Henrico, eadem providentia Londoniensi episcopo, salutem et fraternam in Domino caritatem. Breve illustrissimae in Christo principis ac dominae dominae nostrae Annae, Dei gratia Angliae, Scotiae, Franciae et Hiberniae reginae fidei defensoris etc., nobis inscriptum et directum nuper cum ea qua decuit reverentia, oboedientia et subiectione humiliter recepimus in haec verba:

Anna, Dei gratia Magnae Britanniae, Franciae et Hiberniae regina, fidei defensor etc., reverendo in Christo patri et fideli consiliario nostro Thomae, eadem gratia Cantuariensi archiepiscopo, totius Angliae primati et metropolitano salutem. Pro quibusdam arduis et urgentibus negotiis nos securitatem et defensionem ecclesiae ac pacem et tranquillitatem, bonum publicum et defensionem regni nostri et subditorum nostrorum eiusdem concernentibus, vobis in fide et dilectione quibus nobis tenemini rogando, mandamus quatenus praemissis debito intuitu attentis et ponderatis universos et singulos episcopos vestrae provinciae ac decanos ecclesiarum cathedralium, necnon archidiaconos, capitula et collegia totumque clerum cuiuslibet dioecesis eiusdem provinciae ad comparendum coram vobis in ecclesia cathedrali Sancti Pauli Londoniarum octavo die Iulii proximo futuri [8 July 1708] vel alibi prout melius expedire videritis cum omni celeritate accommoda modo debito convocari faciatis ad tractandum, consentiendum et concludendum super praemissis et aliis quae sibi clarius exponentur tune ibidem ex parte nostra, et hoc, sicut nos et statum regni nostri ac honorem et utilitatem ecclesiae praedictae diligitis nullatenus omittatis. Teste meipsa apud Westmonasterium vicesimo sexto die Aprilis anno regni nostri septimo [26 April 1708].

Quocirca fraternitati vestrae committimus et mandamus [lv] quatenus omnes et singulos coepiscopos ecclesiae nostrae Christi Cantuariensis suffraganeos infra praefatam nostram provinciam Cantuariensem constitutos peremptorie citetis et per eos decanos ecclesiarum cathedralium et collegiatarum et singula capitula earundem archidiaconosque et alios ecclesiarum praelatos exemptos et non exemptos clerumque cuiuslibet dioecesis provinciae nostrae Cantuariensis praedictae peremptorie citari et praemoneri volumus, quod iidem episcopi, decani, archidiaconi et ceteri ecclesiarum cathedralium praelati, exempti et non exempti personaliter et quodlibet capitulum ecclesiarum cathedralium et collegiatarum per unum, clerusque cuiuslibet dioecesis provinciae nostrae antedictae per duos sufficientes procuratores compareant coram nobis aut nostro in hac parte locum tenente sive commissario si nos impediri contigerit in domo capitulari ecclesiae cathedralis Divi Pauli Londoniarum, die Iovis octavo die mensis Iulii proximo futuri post datum praesentium [8 July 1708]
