Gulielmus, providentia divina Cantuariensis archiepiscopus, totius Angliae primas et metropolitanus, venerabili confratri nostro Domino Gulielmo, eadem providentia Londoniensi episcopo, summo Angliae thesaurario, salutem et fraternam in Domino caritatem. Breve illustrissimi in Christo principis et domini nostri, Caroli, Dei gratia Angliae, Scotiae, Franciae et Hiberniae regis, fidei defensoris etc., nobis inscriptum et directum, nuper cum ea qua decuit reverentia observantia et subiectione, humiliter recepimus in haec verba:

Carolus, Dei gratia Angliae, Scotiae, Franciae et Hiberniae rex, fidei defensor etc., reverendissimo in Christo patri ac fideli consiliario nostro Gulielmo, eadem gratia Cantuariensi archiepiscopo, totius Angliae primati et metropolitano salutem. Quibusdam arduis et urgentibus negotiis nos, securitatem et defensionem Ecclesiae Anglicanae ac pacem et tranquillitatem, bonum publicum et defensionem regni nostri et subditorum nostrorum eiusdem concernentibus, vobis in fide et dilectione quibus nobis tenemini rogando mandamus, quatenus praemissis debito intuitu attends et ponderatis, universos et singulos episcopos vestrae provinciae ad comparendum coram vobis in ecclesia cathedrali Sancti Pauli Londoniarum decimo quarto die mensis Aprilis proximo futuri [14 April 1640], vel alibi prout melius expedire videatis, cum omni celeritate accommoda, modo debito convocari faciatis, ad tractandum, consentiendum et concludendum [15] super praemissis et aliis quae sibi clarius exponentur tune ibidem ex parte nostra. Et hoc sicut nos et statum regni nostri et honorem et utilitatem Ecclesiae praedictae diligitis, nullatenus omittatis. Teste meipso apud Westmonasterium vicesimo die Februarii anno regni nostri decimo quinto [20 February 1640].

Quodcirca fraternitiati vestrae committimus et mandamus, quatenus omnes et singulos co-episcopos ecclesiae nostrae Christi Cantuariensis suffraganeos infra praefatam provinciam nostram Cantuariensem constitutos, peremptorie citetis, ac per eos, decanos ecclesiarum cathedralium et collegiatarum et singula capitula earundem, archidiaconosque et ceteros ecclesiarum praelatos exemptos et non exemptos, clerumque cuiuslibet dioeceseos provinciae nostrae antedictae peremptorie citari et praemoneri volumus et mandamus; quod iidem episcopi, decani, archidiaconi et ceteri ecclesiarum praelati exempti et non exempti personaliter et quodlibet capitulum ecclesiarum cathedralium et collegiatarum per unum, clerusque cuiuslibet dioeceseos provinciae nostrae antedictae per duos sufficientes procuratores, compareant coram nobis aut nostro in hac parte locum tenente sive commissario (si nos impediri contigeret) in domo capitulari ecclesiae cathedralis Sancti Pauli Londoniarum, decimo quarto die mensis Aprilis proxime fiituro post datum praesentium,
