The royal writ for a parliament on 21 July

Rex venerabili in Christo patri Richardo, eadem gratia episcopo Dunelmensi, salutem. Quia super quibusdam arduis et urgentissimis negotiis quae per solemnes mmtios nostros quos ad partes transmarinas transmisimus nobis sunt iam plenius intimata, et quae nos et regni nostri statum coronaeque nostrae iura specialiter et intimius contingunt, vobiscum et cum aliis praelatis, magnatibus et proceribus ipsius regni apud Westmonasterium, die Lunae proximo post festum Sanctae Margaritae Virginis proximo fiituro [21 July 1337] colloquium habere volumus et tractatum, vobis in fide et dilectione quibus nobis tenemini firmiter iniungimus et mandamus quod, cessante excusatione quacunque, dictis die et loco personaliter intersitis nobiscum et cum praelatis, magnatibus et proceribus praedictis super dictis negotiis tractaturi, vestrumque consilium impensuri. Et hoc sicut nos et honorem nostrum et tranquillitatem et salvationem regni nostri iuriumque nostrorum praedictorum diligitis nullatenus omittatis. Scientes quod propter arduitatem et magnitudinem negotiorum praedictorum absentiam vestram a ddiem ilium nequimus nee volumus aliqualiter excusare. Teste rege apud Stamford, vicesimo primo die Iunii [21 June 1337]. Per ipsum regem.

The first royal writ

Dated 18 August 1337 calling for convocation on the octaves of Michaelmas [6 October 1337].

The archbishop's summons and the second royal writ

Willelmus etc., archidiacono Eboracensi etc. Mandatum regium recepimus in haec verba:

Edwardus, Dei gratia rex Angliae, dominus Hiberniae et dux Aquitaniae venerabili in Christo patri Wfillelmo de Melton], eadem gratia archiepiscopo Eboracensi, Angliae primati, salutem. Iustum est et consonum rationi ut per communia subsidia communibus periculis occurratur.
