A precept for convocation, 1781557

Douglas, 21st May 1781.

The several rectors, vicars, chaplains and curates within the diocese of Man.

Reverend gentlemen, I am directed by the right reverend the lord bishop to inform you that his lordship purposes (God willing) to hold a convocation in the schoolhouse in the parish of Kirk Michael upon Thursday in Whitsun week next, where you are required to convene by eleven o'clock in the forenoon of the same day, if not prevented by indisposition or some other sufficient cause, and to bring along with you as usual, copies of your parochial registers of marriages, baptisms and burials attested by yourselves and churchwardens, and commencing from your last returns made of your respective registers. And his lordship also desires that if any of you have any business to be transacted or any matter or thing to be proposed, discussed or resolved upon in said convocation, that he will expect to be made acquainted therewith in writing at least one week before, otherwise his lordship must be excused from attending thereto. P. S. Let these be forwarded in the usual manner and as expeditiously as possible.

Braddan, May 21, 1781. Received at two o'clock afternoon, and forthwith forwarded to the reverend vicar of Marown by Thomas William Woods.

Kirk Marown, May 21st, 1781. Received about five o'clock in the afternoon and forwarded immediately to the chaplain of St Mark's by Thomas Christian, vicar of Marown.

St Mark's, May 21 st, 1781. Received about eight o'clock P. M. and forwarded early next morning to the reverend vicar-general Crebbin by David Harrison.

Santan, May 22nd, 1781. Received at seven o'clock in the morning and forwarded immediately to the Reverend Mr William Clucas, vicar-general. Charles Crebbin.

Malew, May 22nd, 1781. Received in the afternoon and forwarded forthwith to the reverend Mr Castley. William Clucas.

Castletown, 22nd May 1781. Received about eight o'clock at night and forwarded immediately to the Reverend Mr Moore of Kirk Arbory by me, Thomas Castley.

Kirk Arbory, May 23, 1781. Received at about eleven o'clock and forwarded immediately to the vicar of Rushen, John Moore.

Rushen, May 23, 1781. Received about one of the clock P. M. and forwarded to the vicar of Kirk Patrick. Nicholas Christian.
