The Logic Colloquium was generously supported by the following organizations: Ercim, CWI, the City of Utrecht, NWO (Exact Sciences), OzsL, VvL, Spinoza Logic in Action, the departments ofmathematics and computer science of the Dutch universities, and ASL (with a contribution to the travel aid fund).

All papers in this volume are based on talks or tutorials given at the colloquium. The editors received reviewing help from Zoe Chatzidakis, Rosalie Iemhoff, Salma Kuhlmann, Quintijn Puite, Bas Terwijn, Simon Thomas, Anne Troelstra, and Yde Venema. Roman Kuznets helped us with the LATEX formatting.

Just before this volume went to press we received the sad news that Dr. Andreja Prijatelj died on April 1, 2002, in Ljubljana, after a six-month illness. She was 48 years old. Andreja was a fine colleague and we will miss her enthusiasm and warmth.
