Summary
Fourteenth Century England aims to bring to publication the fruits of recent and current research projects in a wide range of topics relating to the politics, government, society and culture of the fourteenth century in England, her dominions and neighbours. A number of the papers in this collection stem from major projects and doctoral theses funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the Economic and Social Research Council and the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, Paris. Several also have their genesis in papers given under the auspices of the Society for Fourteenth-Century Studies at the annual International Medieval Congress, Leeds, in the sessions of the Society of the White Hart at the annual International Congress on Medieval Studies, Kalamazoo, and at a successful conference on Edward II organized by Adrian Jobson and hosted by the National Archives in 2010.
I should like to thank Chris Given-Wilson, Jeffrey Hamilton and Nigel Saul, along with two new members of the editorial team, James Bothwell and Gwilym Dodd, for their support and assistance in the organization of conference sessions and of peer-reviewing of submissions. The contributors have borne the pressures of deadlines and editorial changes with punctuality and good grace and Robert Kinsey has assisted with proofs and index. To Caroline Palmer and the staff of Boydell & Brewer I extend our collective thanks for their practical support and their exemplary promotion both of this series and of all aspects of Medieval Studies.
