Summary
In Maher v. Roe, the United States Supreme Court upheld a state’s regulation withholding public funding for abortion from poor women. Although the Court insisted that its decision signaled no retreat from Roe v. Wade, Maher’s devastating consequences for women who relied on public funding for reproductive health care and its curtailing effect on abortion rights jurisprudence tell another story.
