Summary

The first chapter introduces the study, its concepts and methods, the broader theoretical frame within which the research is located, and the intellectual significance of this inquiry. Distinctions are made between key terms such as decolonization and decoloniality, and between the disciplinary curriculum and the institutional curriculum. While the research presents a South African case of radical curriculum change, this orientating chapter demonstrates the global connections to decolonization movements elsewhere including Europe and the United States
