Summary
The nineteenth century witnessed the emergence of a truly international economy and a new European imperialism. The conventional view is that by 1914, the forces of modern capitalism had drawn all but the most remote communities into its orbit while, with few exceptions, IOW societies crumbled under the economic and political domination of the West.
