Testimonies about Jesus by known individuals were the raw materials of the gospels. Q consists of just over 200 verses, mostly sayings of Jesus, found in Matthew and in Luke but not in Mark, stemming from Jesus’s preaching tours around Galilee. This material manifests traits of oral transmission. It crystallized into fixed units, agglomerates, and written fragments through many retellings against the backdrop of communal memory of the outline of Jesus’s public ministry. It echoes themes of Mark.

Chapter Two explores the declaration of colonial peace through the amnesty offered to rebels in the Queen’s Proclamation of 1858. While this document has already piqued the interest of historians and political theorists of liberalism and “indirect rule,” I turn to this document as an instrument of post-conflict resolution. Comparing and contrasting the variety of strategies used by the state to temper forgiveness, this chapter tracks the creation of an uneven hierarchy of colonial subjecthood organized along lines of relative loyalty and disloyalty. In exploring the wider importance of amnesty at this juncture, this chapter examines this offer as a founding political bargain presented to the defeated. This promise of mercy, in this instance, had been contingent on the full surrender of Indian political agency.

The concluding chapter consolidates the key learnings and projects future trends and emerging technologies in the dynamic field of data management and computing. It explores how the convergence of advanced hardware, sophisticated algorithms, and AI-driven solutions is shaping the next frontier of data management and computing. Emphasizing practical implications and future possibilities, this final chapter aims to equip readers with a comprehensive understanding and vision of how these integrated technologies will continue to transform the landscape of computing and data management.

Program evaluations are a fundamental tool of prevention science. They provide insight into a program’s effectiveness and efficiency by systematically collecting information. There are a wide variety of program evaluation types that can be used across early, intermediate, and later phases of intervention to assess a variety of outcomes. This chapter will discuss using theory of change and logic models and will explore the type of evaluation that may be best suited for different stages of prevention program development (formative, process, or outcome). Program evaluation examples are used to illustrate different techniques. Attention to the sociopolitical context within prevention program evaluations is also discussed.

In November 1945, the colonial government placed three Indian soldiers on trial for the crimes of waging war against the British Empire, murder, and abetment to murder. In what ultimately proved a foolhardy decision, the colonial administration decided to hold the trial in the historic Red Fort in Delhi, the site from where this book began. While the trial was intended to solidify military discipline and consolidate British legitimacy in India, the affair escalated into a major crisis of colonial authority. As the controversy around the trial grew, mercy once again emerged as a key terrain of political contestation in the final days of empire.

We first discuss a phenomenon called data mining. This can involve multiple tests on which variables or correlations are relevant. If used improperly, data mining may associate with scientific misconduct. Next, we discuss one way to arrive at a single final model, involving stepwise methods. We see that various stepwise methods lead to different final models. Next, we see that various configurations in test situations, here illustrated for testing for cointegration, lead to different outcomes. It may be possible to see which configurations make most sense and can be used for empirical analysis. However, we suggest that it is better to keep various models and somehow combine inferences. This is illustrated by an analysis of the losses in airline revenues in the United States owing to 9/11. We see that out of four different models, three estimate a similar loss, while the fourth model suggests only 10 percent of that figure. We argue that it is better to maintain various models, that is, models that stand various diagnostic tests, for inference and for forecasting, and to combine what can be learned from them.

This is a reprinting of Wolfe’s response to the EPR paper. Wolfe insists upon an epistemic reading of the wavefunction, arguing that, under such an interpretation, the EPR paradox dissolves.

The state's climate is unique among Indian states. Following the Koppen– Geiger classification of climatic regions of the world, over two-thirds of the land in India is tropical savanna, desert or semi-arid. Most of Kerala is monsoonal or highland tropics. The difference is this. The average summer temperature in the former regions can reach levels high enough to dry up surface water. The monsoon rains relieve that aridity, but only for a few months in a year. That dual condition makes water storage and recycling a fundamental precondition for economic growth. It elevates the risk of droughts and diseases from seasonal or periodic acute water shortages. Kerala, by contrast, does not get as fierce a summer as the other areas of India and receives a lot more rainfall. That dual condition implies a natural immunity from seasonal food and water scarcity and a low disease risk.

With its extraordinary biodiversity, this is a vast storehouse for natural resources. The state has a surface area of 38,855 square kilometres and is bounded by the Arabian Sea to the west and the Western Ghats to the east. The eastern highlands, the central midlands and the western lowlands, with 580 kilometres of coastline, can access a wealth of ocean resources and means of subsistence for their fisherfolk and the general populace. Compared with semi-arid India, the benign environment largely explains the head start in life expectancy (Chapters 1 and 6). Further, nature provides industrial resources that cannot be found elsewhere. The highlands have the ideal climate for growing coffee, tea and spices. Low hills are often planted with rubber. The seaboard traded with West Asia for centuries. The state's Gulf connection, thus, had a prehistory. A large tourism business has developed by selling nature.

On the other hand, recent experience shows that climate change and overdevelopment can jointly raise the risk of disasters. In the first three weeks of August 2018, Kerala received 164 per cent of the average rainfall for that time of the year. The following floods were devastating, comparable only to a similar event in 1924. In 2019, extreme weather repeated, now causing landslides. Mining and quarrying, frequent blasting and unscientific changes in land use patterns affected the highland ecology.

To round out Luke’s gospel, 29 percent of it runs parallel to three substantial sections of Mark. Analysis shows that Luke’s source was written, differed in hundreds of points from Greek Mark (many of which are seconded by Matthew), involved Luke in translating, and may have contained ambiguities of Semitic vocabulary or syntax in places that might explain divergences among our Greek gospels. A fair inference is that what Luke made selections from and adapted into his final gospel was Hebrew Ur-Matthew.
