We prove a local gradient estimate for positive eigenfunctions of the $\mathcal {L}$-operator on conformal solitons given by a general conformal vector field. As an application, we obtain a Liouville type theorem for $\mathcal {L} u=0$, which improves the one of Li and Sun [‘Gradient estimate for the positive solutions of $\mathcal Lu = 0$ and $\mathcal Lu ={\partial u}/{\partial t}$ on conformal solitons’, Acta Math. Sin. (Engl. Ser.) 37(11) (2021), 1768–1782]. We also consider applications where manifolds are special conformal solitons and obtain a better Liouville type theorem in the case of self-shrinkers.

This article studies the dynamical behaviour of classical solutions of a hyperbolic system of balance laws, derived from a chemotaxis model with logarithmic sensitivity, with time-dependent boundary conditions. It is shown that under suitable assumptions on the boundary data, solutions starting in the $H^2$-space exist globally in time and the differences between the solutions and their corresponding boundary data converge to zero as time goes to infinity. There is no smallness restriction on the magnitude of the initial perturbations. Moreover, numerical simulations show that the assumptions on the boundary data are necessary for the above-mentioned results to hold true. In addition, numerical results indicate that the solutions converge asymptotically to time-periodic states if the boundary data are time-periodic.

In this paper, we consider an initial-boundary value problem of Hsieh's equation with conservative nonlinearity. The global unique solvability in the framework of Sobolev is established. In particular, one of our main motivations is to investigate the boundary layer (BL) effect and the convergence rates as the diffusion parameter $\beta$ goes zero. It is shown that the BL-thickness is of the order $O(\beta ^{\gamma })$ with $0<\gamma <\frac {1}{2}$. We need to point out that, different from the previous work on nonconservative form of Hsieh's equations, the conservative nonlinearity $(\psi ^{\beta }\theta ^{\beta })_x$ implies that new nonlinear term $\psi _x^{\beta }\theta ^{\beta }$ needs to be handled. It is important that more regularities on the solution to the limit problem are required to obtain the convergence rates and BL-thickness. It is more difficult for initial-boundary problem due to the lack of boundary conditions (especially, higher-order derivatives) prevents us from applying the integration by part to derive the energy estimates directly. Thus it is more complicated than the case of nonconservative form. Consequently more subtle mathematical analysis needs to be introduced to overcome the difficulties.

We consider the $\mathbb {T}^{4}$ cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS), which is energy-critical. We study the unconditional uniqueness of solutions to the NLS via the cubic Gross–Pitaevskii hierarchy, an uncommon method for NLS analysis which is being explored [24, 35] and does not require the existence of a solution in Strichartz-type spaces. We prove U-V multilinear estimates to replace the previously used Sobolev multilinear estimates. To incorporate the weaker estimates, we work out new combinatorics from scratch and compute, for the first time, the time integration limits, in the recombined Duhamel–Born expansion. The new combinatorics and the U-V estimates then seamlessly conclude the $H^{1}$ unconditional uniqueness for the NLS under the infinite-hierarchy framework. This work establishes a unified scheme to prove $H^{1}$ uniqueness for the $ \mathbb {R}^{3}/\mathbb {R}^{4}/\mathbb {T}^{3}/\mathbb {T}^{4}$ energy-critical Gross–Pitaevskii hierarchies and thus the corresponding NLS.

In this paper, we prove existence results of a one-dimensional periodic solution to equations with the fractional Laplacian of order $s\in (1/2,1)$, singular nonlinearity and gradient term under various situations, including nonlocal contra-part of classical Lienard vector equations, as well other nonlocal versions of classical results know only in the context of second-order ODE. Our proofs are based on degree theory and Perron's method, so before that we need to establish a variety of priori estimates under different assumptions on the nonlinearities appearing in the equations. Besides, we obtain also multiplicity results in a regime where a priori bounds are lost and bifurcation from infinity occurs.

We establish new Strichartz estimates for orthonormal families of initial data in the case of the wave, Klein–Gordon and fractional Schrödinger equations. Our estimates extend those of Frank–Sabin in the case of the wave and Klein–Gordon equations, and generalize work of Frank et al. and Frank–Sabin for the Schrödinger equation. Due to a certain technical barrier, except for the classical Schrödinger equation, the Strichartz estimates for orthonormal families of initial data have not previously been established up to the sharp summability exponents in the full range of admissible pairs. We obtain the optimal estimates in various notable cases and improve the previous results.

The main novelty of this paper is our derivation and use of estimates for weighted oscillatory integrals, which we combine with an approach due to Frank and Sabin. Our weighted oscillatory integral estimates are, in a certain sense, rather delicate endpoint versions of known dispersive estimates with power-type weights of the form $|\xi |^{-\lambda }$ or $(1 + |\xi |^2)^{-\lambda /2}$, where $\lambda \in \mathbb {R}$. We achieve optimal decay rates by considering such weights with appropriate $\lambda \in \mathbb {C}$. For the wave and Klein–Gordon equations, our weighted oscillatory integral estimates are new. For the fractional Schrödinger equation, our results overlap with prior work of Kenig–Ponce–Vega in a certain regime. Our contribution to the theory of weighted oscillatory integrals has also been influenced by earlier work of Carbery–Ziesler, Cowling et al., and Sogge–Stein.

Finally, we provide some applications of our new Strichartz estimates for orthonormal families of data to the theory of infinite systems of Hartree type, weighted velocity averaging lemmas for kinetic transport equations, and refined Strichartz estimates for data in Besov spaces.

This paper investigates regularity in Lorentz spaces for weak solutions of a class of divergence form quasi-linear parabolic equations with singular divergence-free drifts. In this class of equations, the principal terms are vector field functions that are measurable in ($x,t$)-variable, and nonlinearly dependent on both unknown solutions and their gradients. Interior, local boundary, and global regularity estimates in Lorentz spaces for gradients of weak solutions are established assuming that the solutions are in BMO space, the John–Nirenberg space. The results are even new when the drifts are identically zero, because they do not require solutions to be bounded as in the available literature. In the linear setting, the results of the paper also improve the standard Calderón–Zygmund regularity theory to the critical borderline case. When the principal term in the equation does not depend on the solution as its variable, our results recover and sharpen known available results. The approach is based on the perturbation technique introduced by Caffarelli and Peral together with a “double-scaling parameter” technique and the maximal function free approach introduced by Acerbi and Mingione.

We prove a Carleman estimate for elliptic second-order partial differential expressions with Lipschitz continuous coefficients. The Carleman estimate is valid for any complex-valued function u ∈ W2,2 with support in a punctured ball of arbitrary radius. The novelty of this Carleman estimate is that we establish an explicit dependence on the Lipschitz and ellipticity constants, the dimension of the space and the radius of the ball. In particular, we provide a uniform and quantitative bound on the weight function for a class of elliptic operators given explicitly in terms of ellipticity and Lipschitz constant.

A weak Galerkin (WG) method is introduced and numerically tested for the Helmholtz equation. This method is flexible by using discontinuous piecewise polynomials and retains the mass conservation property. At the same time, the WG finite element formulation is symmetric and parameter free. Several test scenarios are designed for a numerical investigation on the accuracy, convergence, and robustness of the WG method in both inhomogeneous and homogeneous media over convex and non-convex domains. Challenging problems with high wave numbers are also examined. Our numerical experiments indicate that the weak Galerkin is a finite element technique that is easy to implement, and provides very accurate and robust numerical solutions for the Helmholtz problem with high wave numbers.

In this paper, we prove the existence of the ground state for the spinor Bose–Einstein condensates with an external Ioffe–Pitchard magnetic field in the one-dimensional case. We also characterise the ground states of spin-1 Bose–Einstein condensates with an external Ioffe–Pitchard magnetic field; that is, for ferromagnetic systems, we show that, under some condition, searching for the ground state of ferromagnetic spin-1 Bose–Einstein condensates with an external Ioffe–Pitchard magnetic field can be reduced to a ‘one-component’ minimisation problem.
