Dualities of resolving subcategories of module categories over rings are introduced and characterized as dualities with respect to Wakamatsu tilting bimodules. By restriction of the dualities to smaller resolving subcategories, sufficient and necessary conditions for these bimodules to be tilting are provided. This leads to the Gorenstein version of both the Miyashita’s duality and Huisgen-Zimmermann’s correspondence. An application of resolving dualities is to show that higher algebraic K-groups and semi-derived Ringel–Hall algebras of finitely generated Gorenstein-projective modules over Artin algebras are preserved under tilting.

Many connections and dualities in representation theory and Lie theory can be explained using quasi-hereditary covers in the sense of Rouquier. Recent work by the first-named author shows that relative dominant (and codominant) dimensions are natural tools to classify and distinguish distinct quasi-hereditary covers of a finite-dimensional algebra. In this paper, we prove that the relative dominant dimension of a quasi-hereditary algebra, possessing a simple preserving duality, with respect to a direct summand of the characteristic tilting module is always an even number or infinite and that this homological invariant controls the quality of quasi-hereditary covers that possess a simple preserving duality. To resolve the Temperley–Lieb algebras, we apply this result to the class of Schur algebras $S(2, d)$ and their $q$-analogues. Our second main result completely determines the relative dominant dimension of $S(2, d)$ with respect to $Q=V^{\otimes d}$, the $d$-th tensor power of the natural two-dimensional module. As a byproduct, we deduce that Ringel duals of $q$-Schur algebras $S(2,d)$ give rise to quasi-hereditary covers of Temperley–Lieb algebras. Further, we obtain precisely when the Temperley–Lieb algebra is Morita equivalent to the Ringel dual of the $q$-Schur algebra $S(2, d)$ and precisely how far these two algebras are from being Morita equivalent, when they are not. These results are compatible with the integral setup, and we use them to deduce that the Ringel dual of a $q$-Schur algebra over the ring of Laurent polynomials over the integers together with some projective module is the best quasi-hereditary cover of the integral Temperley–Lieb algebra.

We establish some properties of $\tau$-exceptional sequences for finite-dimensional algebras. In an earlier paper, we established a bijection between the set of ordered support $\tau$-tilting modules and the set of complete signed $\tau$-exceptional sequences. We describe the action of the symmetric group on the latter induced by its natural action on the former. Similarly, we describe the effect on a $\tau$-exceptional sequence obtained by mutating the corresponding ordered support $\tau$-tilting module via a construction of Adachi-Iyama-Reiten.

Let $\Lambda $ be a finite-dimensional algebra. A wide subcategory of $\mathsf {mod}\Lambda $ is called left finite if the smallest torsion class containing it is functorially finite. In this article, we prove that the wide subcategories of $\mathsf {mod}\Lambda $ arising from $\tau $-tilting reduction are precisely the Serre subcategories of left-finite wide subcategories. As a consequence, we show that the class of such subcategories is closed under further $\tau $-tilting reduction. This leads to a natural way to extend the definition of the “$\tau $-cluster morphism category” of $\Lambda $ to arbitrary finite-dimensional algebras. This category was recently constructed by Buan–Marsh in the $\tau $-tilting finite case and by Igusa–Todorov in the hereditary case.

Skew-gentle algebras are a generalisation of the well-known class of gentle algebras with which they share many common properties. In this work, using non-commutative Gröbner basis theory, we show that these algebras are strong Koszul and that the Koszul dual is again skew-gentle. We give a geometric model of their bounded derived categories in terms of polygonal dissections of surfaces with orbifold points, establishing a correspondence between curves in the orbifold and indecomposable objects. Moreover, we show that the orbifold dissections encode homological properties of skew-gentle algebras such as their singularity categories, their Gorenstein dimensions and derived invariants such as the determinant of their q-Cartan matrices.

Let $Q$ be an acyclic quiver and $w \geqslant 1$ be an integer. Let $\mathsf {C}_{-w}({\mathbf {k}} Q)$ be the $(-w)$-cluster category of ${\mathbf {k}} Q$. We show that there is a bijection between simple-minded collections in $\mathsf {D}^b({\mathbf {k}} Q)$ lying in a fundamental domain of $\mathsf {C}_{-w}({\mathbf {k}} Q)$ and $w$-simple-minded systems in $\mathsf {C}_{-w}({\mathbf {k}} Q)$. This generalises the same result of Iyama–Jin in the case that $Q$ is Dynkin. A key step in our proof is the observation that the heart $\mathsf {H}$ of a bounded t-structure in a Hom-finite, Krull–Schmidt, ${\mathbf {k}}$-linear saturated triangulated category $\mathsf {D}$ is functorially finite in $\mathsf {D}$ if and only if $\mathsf {H}$ has enough injectives and enough projectives. We then establish a bijection between $w$-simple-minded systems in $\mathsf {C}_{-w}({\mathbf {k}} Q)$ and positive $w$-noncrossing partitions of the corresponding Weyl group $W_Q$.

In this paper, we give characterizations of the category of finitely generated projective modules having a right rejective chain. By focusing on the characterizations, we give sufficient conditions for right rejective chains to be total right rejective chains. Moreover, we prove that Nakayama algebras with heredity ideals, locally hereditary algebras and algebras of global dimension at most two satisfy the sufficient conditions. As an application, we show that these algebras are right-strongly quasi-hereditary algebras.

For a finite dimensional algebra A, the bounded homotopy category of projective A-modules and the bounded derived category of A-modules are dual to each other via certain categories of locally-finite cohomological functors. We prove that the duality gives rise to a 2-categorical duality between certain strict 2-categories involving bounded homotopy categories and bounded derived categories, respectively. We apply the 2-categorical duality to the study of triangle autoequivalence groups.

We introduce and study the notion of Gorenstein silting complexes, which is a generalization of Gorenstein tilting modules in Gorenstein-derived categories. We give the equivalent characterization of Gorenstein silting complexes. We give a sufficient condition for a partial Gorenstein silting complex to have a complement.

We study certain special tilting and cotilting modules for an algebra with positive dominant dimension, each of which is generated or cogenerated (and usually both) by projective-injectives. These modules have various interesting properties, for example, that their endomorphism algebras always have global dimension less than or equal to that of the original algebra. We characterise minimal d-Auslander–Gorenstein algebras and d-Auslander algebras via the property that these special tilting and cotilting modules coincide. By the Morita–Tachikawa correspondence, any algebra of dominant dimension at least 2 may be expressed (essentially uniquely) as the endomorphism algebra of a generator-cogenerator for another algebra, and we also study our special tilting and cotilting modules from this point of view, via the theory of recollements and intermediate extension functors.

In this article, we study short exact sequences of finitary 2-representations of a weakly fiat 2-category. We provide a correspondence between such short exact sequences with fixed middle term and coidempotent subcoalgebras of a coalgebra 1-morphism defining this middle term. We additionally relate these to recollements of the underlying abelian 2-representations.

Cluster categories and cluster algebras encode two dimensional structures. For instance, the Auslander–Reiten quiver of a cluster category can be drawn on a surface, and there is a class of cluster algebras determined by surfaces with marked points.

Cluster characters are maps from cluster categories (and more general triangulated categories) to cluster algebras. They have a tropical shadow in the form of so-called tropical friezes, which are maps from cluster categories (and more general triangulated categories) to the integers.

This paper will define higher dimensional tropical friezes. One of the motivations is the higher dimensional cluster categories of Oppermann and Thomas, which encode (d + 1)-dimensional structures for an integer d ⩾ 1. They are (d + 2)-angulated categories, which belong to the subject of higher homological algebra.

We will define higher dimensional tropical friezes as maps from higher cluster categories (and more general (d + 2)-angulated categories) to the integers. Following Palu, we will define a notion of (d + 2)-angulated index, establish some of its properties, and use it to construct higher dimensional tropical friezes.

A duality theorem for the singularity category of a finite dimensional Gorenstein algebra is proved. It complements a duality on the category of perfect complexes, discovered by Happel. One of its consequences is an analogue of Serre duality, and the existence of Auslander–Reiten triangles for the $\mathfrak{p}$-local and $\mathfrak{p}$-torsion subcategories of the derived category, for each homogeneous prime ideal $\mathfrak{p}$ arising from the action of a commutative ring via Hochschild cohomology.

A ring $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6EC}$ is called right Köthe if every right $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6EC}$-module is a direct sum of cyclic modules. In this paper, we give a characterization of basic hereditary right Köthe rings in terms of their Coxeter valued quivers. We also give a characterization of basic right Köthe rings with radical square zero. Therefore, we give a solution to Köthe’s problem in these two cases.

We give a complete description of a basis of the extension spaces between indecomposable string and quasi-simple band modules in the module category of a gentle algebra.

A new homological dimension, called rigidity dimension, is introduced to measure the quality of resolutions of finite dimensional algebras (especially of infinite global dimension) by algebras of finite global dimension and big dominant dimension. Upper bounds of the dimension are established in terms of extensions and of Hochschild cohomology, and finiteness in general is derived from homological conjectures. In particular, the rigidity dimension of a non-semisimple group algebra is finite and bounded by the order of the group. Then invariance under stable equivalences is shown to hold, with some exceptions when there are nodes in case of additive equivalences, and without exceptions in case of triangulated equivalences. Stable equivalences of Morita type and derived equivalences, both between self-injective algebras, are shown to preserve rigidity dimension as well.

In order to better unify the tilting theory and the Auslander–Reiten theory, Xi introduced a general transpose called the relative transpose. Originating from this, we introduce and study the cotranspose of modules with respect to a left A-module T called n-T-cotorsion-free modules. Also, we give many properties and characteristics of n-T-cotorsion-free modules under the help of semi-Wakamatsu-tilting modules AT.

Approximation sequences and derived equivalences occur frequently in the research of mutation of tilting objects in representation theory, algebraic geometry and noncommutative geometry. In this paper, we introduce symmetric approximation sequences in additive categories and weakly n-angulated categories which include (higher) Auslander-Reiten sequences (triangles) and mutation sequences in algebra and geometry, and show that such sequences always give rise to derived equivalences between the quotient rings of endomorphism rings of objects in the sequences modulo some ghost and coghost ideals.

In this paper we define almost gentle algebras, which are monomial special multiserial algebras generalizing gentle algebras. We show that the trivial extension of an almost gentle algebra by its minimal injective co-generator is a symmetric special multiserial algebra and hence a Brauer configuration algebra. Conversely, we show that any almost gentle algebra is an admissible cut of a unique Brauer configuration algebra and, as a consequence, we obtain that every Brauer configuration algebra with multiplicity function identically one is the trivial extension of an almost gentle algebra. We show that a hypergraph is associated with every almost gentle algebra A, and that this hypergraph induces the Brauer configuration of the trivial extension of A. Among other things, this gives a combinatorial criterion to decide when two almost gentle algebras have isomorphic trivial extensions.

We introduce the notion of a perfect path for a monomial algebra. We classify indecomposable non-projective Gorenstein-projective modules over the given monomial algebra via perfect paths. We apply the classification to a quadratic monomial algebra and describe explicitly the stable category of its Gorenstein-projective modules.
