In the following essay, Benoît Rihoux, Bernhard Kittel and Jonathon W. Moses outline the recent developments in European political methodology and highlight their own work in developing a number of projects with the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR) that include establishing a Standing Group in Political Methodology, the ECPR Summer School in Methods and Techniques and the forthcoming ECPR/Palgrave Macmillan Research Methods Book Series.

The 104th Annual Meeting in Boston explored the differentiation of ideas, people, institutions, and nations to discuss “Categories & the Politics of Global Inequalities.” Program cochairs Jane Junn of Rutgers University, New Brunswick, and Ed Keller of the University of California, Los Angeles, organized all panels and plenary sessions by working closely with the Program Committee, a team of 56 members drawn from the Organized Sections.

Nine outstanding students from the 2008 Ralph Bunche Summer Institute (RBSI) presented their research at the American Politics II and Teaching and Learning Poster Session at this year's Annual Meeting in Boston.

Peter Katzenstein, the Walter S. Carpenter, Jr., Professor of International Studies at Cornell University, became the Association's 105th president on August 31 at the close of the APSA Annual Meeting. Dianne Pinderhughes of the Notre Dame University, APSA's outgoing president, symbolically passed the gavel to Katzenstein at the Association's Business Meeting on August 30. Joining Katzenstein in guiding the Association are four new officers. Eight new members of the council will be elected in an all-member election during the month of October. Details on the results of the election will be available on the web and in the January issue of PS.

During the Annual Business Meeting on August 30, 2008, APSA executive director Michael Brintnall verified a challenge to the slate of nominees for seats on the APSA Council. An all-member electronic election is being held to determine the eight Council members who will serve on the 2008–09 Council in addition to the officers who were declared elected without contest. The election began on October 1 and will end on November 1, 2008.

In order to keep members informed about APSA financial practices, the APSA Trust and Development Board, which is charged by the APSA Constitution to oversee Association assets, reports from time to time on Association investment practices.

The APSA Nominating Committee welcomes your suggestions for candidates for 2009 council seats and offices. This year, eight Council seats, three vice presidencies, and the offices of president-elect and secretary are open. Council members serve staggered two-year terms. The president-elect, vice presidents, and secretary all serve one-year terms.
