Gustatory sensation in response to tactile stimulation has been reported to occur in only 0.6% of synesthetes and has rarely been formally described.

Case Study: A 29-year-old female with schizoaffective disorder – depressed subtype, two months prior to presentation, began noticing that when she touched objects, she would experience an abnormal taste in her mouth. When she would touch specific items with her fingertips, for instance wood, bedsheets, tables, cups, plates, silverware, metal, trash cans, and toothpaste would induce a bitter taste. Touching wood caused the most intense bitter taste. Touching glass did not precipitate a taste.

Mental Status Examination: Disheveled and guarded with minimal eye contact. Anxious and agitated. She believes people are stalking her and that cell phones, radios, and computers emit radiation which makes her head burn as if it is on fire. She perceived that inanimate objects, such as furniture, were staring at her. Other: CT scan of brain with and without contrast: normal.

This could be due to neural overactivation between brain regions due to a neighborhood effect, with cross-firing of connecting fibers. The cortical taste area of the brain lies within the Brodmann area 43 of the parietal lobe which includes the pre- as well as post-central gyri extending into the parietal operculum. Brodmann areas 3, 1, and 2 in the postcentral gyrus is where the primary sensation for touch is mediated. The stimulation in adjacent and overlapping anatomical structures may be explained by ephaptic transmission with firing of one causing discharge of the second, yclept the adjacency principle.This co-localization hypothesis is further supported by the occurrence of pathological state of seizures which manifest both tactile and gustatory sensation. Such a hypothesis would be supported by Anderson’s 1886 observation discussing a peculiar sensation in the right arm and hand elicited concurrently with a bitter sensation in the mouth. Through an overflow phenomenon, touch may induce a diffuse serotonergic discharge to more remote regions of the brain that may mediate their functions through serotonin, such as taste. Possibly, other pathology may be invoked to explain this synesthesia. A deprived sensory system may be hyper-receptive to stray or overflow of sensations which are then interpreted within the sensorily deprived sensory system, as in Charles Bonnet syndrome. In the chemosensory sphere, sensory deprivation is associated with chemosensory hallucinations. If the patient manifests gustatory deficit, it may have predisposed her to sensitivity to such stray or overflowing sensory stimulus from touch manifesting as gustation. In those who present with synesthesia, investigation of pathology in the sensory system of the receiving concurrent sensation is warranted.

This study aims to address the issue of bi-directional affective disorders among college students, fostering their holistic development in terms of moral, intellectual, physical, and aesthetic aspects. By integrating Marxist theory with contemporary national education contexts, the research seeks to incorporate these principles into Civic Education within universities and reform existing teaching methodologies.

Twenty students exhibiting bi-directional affective disorders were randomly selected from ten different Chinese colleges and institutions. With 100 students in each group, a total of 200 participants were evenly divided into an experimental group and a control group. The control group received standard collegiate Civic Education, while the experimental group was exposed to a Civic Teaching Mode enriched with Marxist insights. The 6-month trial was followed by data collection and analysis employing a customized emotional disorder scale and SPSS 23.0 software.

Following 6 months of instruction, students in the experimental group displayed a decrease in affective disorder scale scores from 9.56 ± 0.58 to 1.24 ± 0.37. Conversely, students in the control group exhibited scores dropping from 9.74 ± 0.62 to 7.89 ± 0.52.

In comparison to traditional Civic Education, the integration of Marxist principles and the contextual specifics of Chinese education effectively address the limitations of conventional instruction, so as to comprehensively improve the two-way emotional barriers of students.

Faced with interpersonal communication challenges, college students often experience social anxiety disorders. This study aims to investigate the potential of constructing pathways for ideological and political education and mental health within universities to alleviate social anxiety disorders among college students.

A one-semester intervention study was conducted. The intervention group, consisting of 100 college students, received a combined approach of ideological and political education and mental health pathways. In contrast, the control group, comprising 100 college students, followed conventional mental health education methods. Data were collected using the Social Anxiety Inventory (SAI) and the College Student Ideological and Political Quality Scale (PQCS). Descriptive and inferential statistical analyses were performed using SPSS20.0.

After an intervention, the SAI score of the intervention group was significantly lower than that of the control group, indicating a significant improvement in social anxiety. At the same time, the scores of the intervention group on the ideological and political quality scale were significantly higher than those of the control group, indicating that ideological and political education and mental health pathways have the effect of improving the ideological and political quality of college students.

The results indicate that the combination of ideological and political education in universities and mental health pathways can effectively improve the social anxiety status of college students and enhance their ideological and political qualities.

Despite recognition in current and past versions of DSM, dissociative identity disorder (DID) remains a controversial psychiatric disorder which hampers its diagnosis and treatment. Factors that lead misdiagnosing of DID are the unfamiliarity with spectrum of dissociative disorders, the existence of feigned DID, the reluctance of individuals with DID to present their dissociative symptoms, and lack of knowledge and appreciation of its epidemiology which is shown to have 1.5% lifetime prevalence. An accurate diagnosis allows the appropriate interventions leading to fewer hospitalizations.

KC is 28 y.o. female with a psychiatric history significant for polysubstance use, PTSD, and GAD, who presented to the ED due concern for DID per mother. Prior to presentation, she had thrashed her mother’s home of which she denies recollection. She has a history of early sexual trauma by her own family. She screened 44 on the Dissociative Experiences Scale (DES). Throughout her hospitalization, she exhibited questionable lapses of disassociation, although there were no noted changes of posture, dress, speech, or acknowledgement of alters. She was discharged on Remeron 15 mg, Risperdal 2 mg, and Prazosin 2 mg with outpatient resources for trauma-based therapy.

DID is characterized by two or more distinct identities or personality that coincide with fluctuating states of consciousness and changing access to autobiographical memory. The neurological similarities between personality states in DID and PTSD subtypes support a trauma-related etiology of DID. Although there are many interviewing tools, the DES has been the most widely used clinically. Although collateral information, detailed history, and DES were concerning for DID, observation did not show distinct dissociative episodes as discussed by collateral (alter described as destructive and cold towards her own infant) although the hospital environment may not have provided enough stress for patient to transition from one personality to another.

The International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation proposes a phase-oriented treatment approach: 1) establishing safety, stabilization, and symptom reduction; 2) confronting, working through and integrating traumatic memories; 3) identity integration and rehabilitation. From inpatient standpoint, phase 1 and 2 may be promptly addressed. Besides initiation of Remeron and Risperdal (consistent with treatment of DID in two prior case reports), implement grounding techniques and coping mechanisms against triggers for dissociative episodes. Inpatient screening can facilitate earlier accurate diagnosis, faster and more targeted interventions, prevent unnecessary direct and indirect societal costs, and, most importantly, improve quality of life for those with the disorder.

Cotard is a syndrome characterized by ideas of damnation or rejection, anxious melancholia, and nihilistic delusions concerning one’s own body or existence. Capgras is a syndrome in which the patient believes that the identities of close relatives or friends are replaced by others. Capgras and Cotard delusion are rarely reported in one individual simultaneously, which we will describe in this poster.

DD is a 38-year-old female with history of schizoaffective disorder, bipolar type, PTSD, and reported TBI who presented to the ED exhibiting paranoia and delusions in the setting of medication non-adherence and increased psychosocial stressors. She endorsed her organs were rotting, and that she was stolen by imposters who claim to be her family from birth. Chart review revealed previous hospitalizations involving mania and paranoid delusions; however, these Cotard and Capgras delusions were new. She also had reported TBI injury from domestic abuse, as well as emotional and sexual trauma. Her Cotard delusions resolved with risperidone 6 mg daily and valproic acid 500 mg BID. However, her Capgras delusions were maintained after 22 days of inpatient hospitalization. On discharge, she continued to refuse reconnecting with her family and was subsequently set up with an intensive outpatient program.

Cotard and Capgras delusions are considered to reflect different interpretations of similar anomalous experiences. The persecutory delusions and suspiciousness often noted in Capgras contribute to the patient’s mistaking a change in themselves for a change in others, whereas people who are depressed in Cotard exaggerate the negative effects of the same change whilst attributing it to themselves. Although these two delusions are phenomenally distinct, they may therefore represent attempts to make sense of fundamentally similar experiences. The anatomical origin of these disorders have been reported to be from a disconnection between the temporal cortex and the limbic system as described in a patient with ischemic stroke. DD’s PTSD and TBI with possible damage to her left tempoparietal lobe may have predisposed her to comorbid delusions. Although DD’s Cotard delusions abated with antipsychotic treatment, her Capgras delusions were maintained. Recently losing custody of children may have contributed to the depression that precipitated her Cotard subtype 1 delusion. Her response to risperidone is consistent with a previous case report that highlighted the effectiveness of antipsychotics in the absence of ECT with Cotard delusion. In regards to her ongoing Capgras delusion, the chronic abuse by DD’s family may have led to a more persistent psychodynamically meaningful negation of DD’s sense of relationship to her family.

Capgras and Cotard syndromes, though rare, can present together. Additional studies are needed to understand the pathophysiology and treatment outcomes.

Paroxetine is a commonly used psychotherapy drug, and the ideological and political education model in universities is an educational model aimed at cultivating students’ sense of social responsibility, professional ethics, and innovative spirit. The study on the therapeutic effect of combining ideological and political education in universities with paroxetine on students’ entrepreneurial and employment anxiety disorder aims to reduce anxiety symptoms and improve students’ mental health levels.

This study studied 240 college students and randomly divided them into two groups: one group (n=120) received the intervention of the ideological and political education model combined with paroxetine treatment, while the other group (n=120) served as the control group and only received routine guidance and education. SAS (Self Rating Anxiety Scale) was mainly used to evaluate students’ anxiety symptoms, lasting for 12 weeks, and the effects were compared between the two groups.

After 12 weeks of treatment, the anxiety scale score of the intervention group was significantly lower than that of the control group, and the difference between the two was significant (P<0.05). The students in the intervention group showed significant progress in improving anxiety symptoms, clarity of career planning, and innovative attitudes.

This study shows that the combination of ideological and political education mode and paroxetine can significantly reduce the anxiety level of employment and entrepreneurship among college students, improve their attitude towards employment and entrepreneurship, and demonstrate broad application prospects.

Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder that seriously affects athletes’ training and competition performance. Traditional drug treatment methods such as atomoxetine can improve symptoms, but there are also side effects. Featured football teaching, as a new nondrug treatment method, is worth exploring its therapeutic effect.

This study recruited 60 athletes diagnosed with ADHD and randomly divided them into an intervention group and a control group, with 30 participants in each group. The intervention group received characteristic football teaching and atomoxetine treatment, while the control group only received atomoxetine treatment. The research period is 12 weeks, and quantitative evaluation is conducted using the ADHD rating scale and the exercise performance rating scale.

After the study, the ADHD scores of both groups of athletes decreased, while the exercise performance scores of the intervention group were significantly higher than those of the control group. The statistical analysis results show that feature-based football teaching has a significant effect on improving athletes’ attention deficit and improving sports performance.

Featured football teaching emerges as an effective means to enhance concentration and performance among athletes with ADHD. As a non-pharmacological intervention, its therapeutic impact is noteworthy, meriting promotion and practical application. Future research could delve into exploring the personalized football teaching’s therapeutic effects on diverse ADHD athlete profiles, striving to develop tailored treatment plans for athletes with ADHD.

Preclinical evidence has identified the trace amine-associated receptor 1 (TAAR1) as a novel regulator of metabolic control. Ulotaront is a TAAR1 and 5-HT1A agonist currently in Phase 3 clinical trials for the treatment of schizophrenia. Here we summarize preclinical results assessing the effects of ulotaront on weight and metabolic parameters.

Effects of ulotaront administration were evaluated on oral glucose tolerance (oGTT), gastric emptying, and in rodent models of weight gain (high-fat diet [HFD]-, corticosterone-, and olanzapine-induced).

Following 15-day oral administration of ulotaront, rats on HFD showed dose-dependent reduction in body weight, food intake, and liver triglyceride content compared to controls. In addition, a more rapid reversal of olanzapine-induced weight gain and food intake was observed in rats switched to ulotaront (vs. vehicle). Consistent with weight-lowering effects in rats, chronic ulotaront treatment normalized corticosterone-induced weight gain in mice. Assessment of oGTT showed a dose-dependent reduction of glucose excursion in response to acute ulotaront administration in naive and diabetic db/db mice. Ulotaront administration also delayed gastric emptying in mice—a likely mechanism driving reductions in glucose excursions during the oGTT. Whole-brain c-fos imaging of ulotaront-treated mice revealed increased neuronal activity in several brain regions associated with regulation of food intake and metabolic signals.

The data indicate that ulotaront not only lacks metabolic liabilities typically associated with antipsychotics but can reduce body weight and improve glucose tolerance in rodent models. The underlying mechanisms may include TAAR1-mediated peripheral effects on glucose homeostasis and/or direct modulation of homeostatic and hedonic neurocircuits regulating energy balance. The beneficial metabolic effects of ulotaront may suggest a substantially improved risk-benefit profile compared to established antipsychotics.

AXS-05 (dextromethorphan HBr 45 mg-bupropion HCl 105 mg) is a novel, oral, investigational NMDA receptor antagonist with multimodal activity. The dextromethorphan component of AXS-05 is an NMDA receptor antagonist and a sigma-1 receptor agonist. The bupropion component of AXS-05 serves primarily to increase the bioavailability of dextromethorphan.

To evaluate the effects of AXS-05 on anxiety in MDD.

EVOLVE was an open-label study, in which patients were treated with AXS-05 twice daily for up to 15 months. Subjects had either rolled in after a prior AXS-05 study or were directly enrolled and had a DSM-5 diagnosis of MDD, a MADRS score of ≥25, and had been treated with ≥ 1 antidepressant in the current major depressive episode. A total of 186 patients were enrolled. Efficacy endpoints included MADRS and HAM-A. Here we present the results for the directly enrolled patients (n =146).

Mean baseline HAM-A scores were 15.6. Reductions from baseline to Weeks 1, 2, and 6 were 3.4±5.34 (p< 0.001), 5.5±5.81 (p< 0.001), and 8.6±5.75 (p< 0.001), respectively. Improvements on the HAM-A were durable through Month 12 (-10.2±6.33; p< 0.001). Remission (HAM-A ≤7) rates on the HAM-A at Weeks 1, 2, and 6 were 19.9%, 36.0%, and 58.1%, respectively. Remission at Month 12 was 78.3%.

Long-term treatment with AXS-05 was generally well tolerated. The most commonly reported adverse events were COVID-19 infection (8.9%), nausea (8.9%), headache (7.5%), dry mouth (6.2%), insomnia (5.5%), and dizziness (5.5%).

These data support the use of AXS-05 in patients with comorbid depression and anxiety.

The current psychological problem of bipolar disorder among college students due to employment pressure is characterized by a long course of illness, high suicide, and disability rates. Traditional drug therapy not only accelerates the circulation frequency of manic and depressive episodes but also leads to drug tolerance. Therefore, the study aims to combine ideological and political education with lamotrigine in the context of educational psychology to achieve the combined treatment of bipolar disorder among employed college students.

This study focused on 50 college students with bipolar disorder who were employed. The participants were divided into two groups, Group A and Group B, based on illness duration. Group A received a single lamotrigine treatment, while Group B received a combination of ideological and political education and lamotrigine treatment, with a total treatment time of six months. After the experimental results were processed using SPSS17.0 statistical software, and the Hamilton Depression Scale scores of the two groups of patients before and after treatment were compared.

After three months of treatment, the score was 18.77 ± 2.37 points. After six months of treatment, the score decreased to 7.67 ± 2.57 points, significantly lower than the control group’s 14.34 ± 2.17 points at this time.

The integration of ideological and political education with lamotrigine treatment yields a substantial therapeutic impact on bipolar disorder among employed college students. This comprehensive approach underscores the importance of considering educational psychology when devising treatment strategies for psychological disorders.

Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a heterogeneous condition characterized by depressed mood and/or loss of interest/pleasure in activities, among other symptoms. Most currently available treatments for depression were developed on the hypothesis that depressive symptoms arise from a depletion of monoamines within the central nervous system (CNS). However, clinical understanding has advanced to identify brain network dysregulation as the primary driver of depression, with monoamines playing a lesser role. Prolonged inability to regulate brain networks may lead to the core symptoms and clinical presentation of MDD. Depression has been linked to impaired neuronal activity in brain networks (e.g., central executive network [CEN], default mode network [DMN], and salience network [SN]). It is hypothesized that improvement in depressive symptoms may result from restoring balance in brain networks governing mood.

γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is critical for maintaining and restoring excitatory-inhibitory balance in the brain and regulating brain networks. Approximately one-third of neurons in the CNS are GABAergic, regulating network activity throughout the brain, including regions involved in mood, sleep, and cognition. GABA activates GABAA receptors (GABAAR), inhibiting neuronal activity through phasic (via synaptic GABAAR) and tonic (via extrasynaptic GABAAR) currents. Tonic GABA currents may play a particularly important role in regulating network activity, since they produce a large net inhibitory effect and are also involved in controlling the excitability of inhibitory interneurons, the key regulators of rhythmic brain network activity.

Zuranolone is an investigational oral GABAAR positive allosteric modulator and neuroactive steroid. In clinical trials, treatment with zuranolone has shown significant improvement over placebo in depressive symptoms in adults with MDD or postpartum depression, with a generally well-tolerated and consistent safety profile.

The hypothesized mechanism of zuranolone differs from monoamine-based antidepressants and from benzodiazepines. Unlike benzodiazepines, which bind to the α/γ subunit interface in synaptic GABAAR and enhance phasic inhibitory currents, zuranolone binds to the α/β subunit interface present in nearly all GABAAR, leading to enhanced phasic (synaptic) and tonic (extrasynaptic) inhibitory currents. Furthermore, in vitro evidence suggests that whereas benzodiazepines are associated with GABAAR downregulation, zuranolone upregulates the surface expression of GABAAR.

In conclusion, by upregulating GABAAR expression and increasing phasic and tonic inhibitory GABAergic signaling, zuranolone may rapidly restore and maintain excitatory-inhibitory balance in brain networks, thus allowing the brain to potentially respond appropriately to internal and external stimuli.

College students face challenges in communication, employment, learning, and emotional interaction, contributing to a range of psychological issues. Deficit schizophrenia, though uncommon among college students, can exhibit symptoms of delayed thinking and cognitive impairment. Prolonged use of traditional medications can lead to tolerance. This study investigates the synergy of reformed ideological and political education in higher education with Paliperidone to offer comprehensive intervention for college students with deficit schizophrenia.

A study was conducted on 85 college students with defective schizophrenia at a certain university. They were divided into Group C and Group D. Group C received a single treatment with Paliperidone, while Group B received combined treatment with reformed ideological and political education and teaching in universities. The treatment lasted for 3 months, and after treatment, SPSS 20.0 was used for data analysis, and the Mental Classification Cognitive Test Scale was used to quantify the mental status of college students.

Post-treatment, positive symptoms in Group D reduced to 15.46 ± 1.53 points, negative symptoms dropped to 15.61 ± 3.51 points, and general psychiatric symptoms decreased to 15.12 ± 1.21 points. These values were lower than pre-treatment levels and Group C scores. The effective treatment rate for Group D reached 96.67%, surpassing Group C.

The intervention involving the combined use of reformed ideological and political education in universities with Paliperidone exhibited efficacy in addressing deficit schizophrenia in college students. This approach showcases the potential of interdisciplinary interventions in higher education for improving psychological well-being.

College students frequently grapple with anxiety stemming from academic and employment pressures, often leading to the development of anxiety disorders over time. Football training, as a team sport, not only enhances physical fitness but also aids in anxiety reduction during physical activities. Nonetheless, existing football training and competition systems face challenges that undermine their effectiveness in treating anxiety. This study investigates the potential of reforming the football training and competition system as an intervention to address anxiety disorders in college students.

A study was conducted on 67 college students with anxiety disorders, who were divided into an observation group and a control group. The control group adopts traditional methods, while the observation group adopts the reformed football training and competition system for sports intervention. After the experiment, SPSS 20.0 software was used for statistical analysis.

After the observation group experiment, the somatization score of college students was 17.10, the anxiety score was 15.25, and the interpersonal sensitivity score was 14.31. The neuroticism score was 11.66, which was significantly better than the pre-experimental score. Meanwhile, after the experimental intervention, 13.4% of 9 people had anxiety factor scores greater than 2. Significantly lower than the 40.3% before the experiment.

The reform of the football training and competition system proves highly effective as an intervention strategy for addressing anxiety disorders among college students.

Opioid use disorder (OUD) is a serious public health threat. Pharmacotherapy, commonly known as medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD), is established as the cornerstone of OUD treatment. MOUDs reduce likelihood of relapse, promote recovery, and save lives. However, many clinicians are still reluctant to use these medications, in part due to inadequate training and experience. In light of the ongoing opioid overdose epidemic, it has become ever more important for clinicians to confidently and thoughtfully deploy these medications to help patients struggling with OUD. To aid busy clinicians, we have put together a review of the extant literature on three FDA-approved pharmacotherapy options—methadone, buprenorphine, and extended-release naltrexone—with a heavy focus on practical clinical application. We discuss how to effectively engage patients with OUD and initiate them on MOUDs—especially when their primary misused drug is fentanyl. We also review novel strategies, such as buprenorphine microinduction, as well as suggested best practice to effectively transition between MOUDs. Finally, we synthesize our review and recommendations in an algorithmic flowchart to provide visually compelling information.

To demonstrate that COVID-19-associated acute psychosis, though rare, can happen in the pediatric patient population. Patients with new-onset psychosis should be tested for COVID-19 infection, and other organic causes of psychosis should also be considered (e.g., delirium, medication-induced psychosis, and catatonia).

Patient X, a 14-year-old female with no known past psychiatric history, presented to the local emergency room following odd behavior for 3 days and having tested positive for COVID-19 2 weeks prior. The patient’s mother reported odd behaviors, including the patient claiming her fish was calling her name and her name was being repeated on TV. She had been moving slowly with occasional staring. The patient’s mother reported episodes in which the patient was repeating phrases over and over and where she would require redirection to a task. When the patient planned to have a bath, her mother noted that she was naked in her room while looking for something and then needed redirection to go take a bath. She did not have any episodes of agitation. A thorough psychiatric evaluation indicated she was experiencing visual hallucinations. Her vitals were within normal ranges, except for a mildly elevated heart rate. The patient was admitted for further testing, assessment, and management. She was started on chlorpromazine 10 mg daily as needed for psychosis.

A complete blood count with differential (CBC), complete metabolic panel (CMP), and thyroid function results were all within the normal range. Urine drug screening was negative. EKG, CSF analysis, chest X-ray, and brain MRI showed no significant abnormalities. Mild background slowing was noted on EEG, with no interictal/epileptiform discharges or any delta brushes. Therefore, a tentative diagnosis of COVID-19-associated psychosis was made. Treated with chlorpromazine 10 mg daily, the patient gradually improved with no hallucinations or bizarre behavior. She was discharged after 5 days and was not prescribed any medication at discharge. Nine days after discharge, the patient was seen by a pediatric neurologist. She did not report any hallucinations or delusions, but her mother reported that the patient moved slowly and had difficulty identifying common objects. An autoimmune panel, physical exam, and repeat EEG were all unremarkable. The neurologist concluded that her psychosis was most likely post-viral sequelae. The patient continued to improve and returned to school over the span of 2 months.

Acute psychosis after COVID-19 infection is a new and emerging diagnosis with no consensus on management strategies for pediatric or adult patient populations. This case highlights the need for clinicians to be vigilant of subtle, fluid psychotic symptoms, in addition to patients’ general mental well-being. We do not have research regarding the long-term consequences of acute psychosis episodes. Further studies are needed to investigate the neuropsychiatric etiology of post-COVID-19 psychosis and the optimum treatment for this group of patients.

The study followed 80 financial professionals with mixed depression for 1 year. It investigated the extent of mixed-type depression in patients before and after the intersection of cross-border e-commerce and regional economic development. The study used the Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) to assess the severity of mixed depressive symptoms.

After the mutual integration of cross-border e-commerce and regional economic development, the average HAMA score of mixed depression among financial employees decreased to approximately 10.45, with a significant pre-post difference (P<0.05), indicating that the patients’ mixed depression was significantly alleviated.

The combination of cross-border e-commerce and regional economic development has a significant positive impact on the mixed depression of financial professionals. Prove that while promoting economic restructuring and cross-border e-commerce development, it also indirectly promotes the psychological health of practitioners.

Bipolar depression students may face various challenges during the learning process, such as emotional fluctuations and lack of concentration. Traditional teaching models may not achieve ideal results in response to the special needs of such students. Given this, the study aims to explore whether the interactive English translation teaching model can bring better learning experiences and effects to students with bipolar depression. Through an in-depth analysis of the characteristics of this teaching model, combined with the characteristics of students with bipolar depression, the study aims to provide educators with new strategies and methods.

The study selected 120 students with bipolar depression as the research subjects and randomly divided them into an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group students were taught using interactive English translation teaching mode, while the control group students were taught using traditional teaching mode. The study used the Bipolar Depression Rating Scale (BDRS) to evaluate the intervention of students with bipolar depression.

Before the experiment, there was no significant difference in bipolar depression scores between the two groups of students (P>0.05); After the experiment, the bipolar depression symptoms of the experimental group students were significantly improved and significantly lower than those of the control group students (P<0.05).

The interactive English translation teaching model shows promise in alleviating symptoms of bipolar depression among students. Furthermore, this model positively impacts both their learning experience and mental well-being.

The study hypothesis is that regardless of "zero-tolerance policies," bullying is still occurring in schools. The study objective is to assess the prevalence of bullying in a child and adolescent psychiatric clinic patient population and gather information from students about their experiences with bullying, the response of school staff, and results of corrective actions taken.

A proposal was approved by the University of Missouri Internal Review Board to conduct this study. 101 randomly selected patients who are students in the mid-Missouri area were interviewed at the University of Missouri Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Clinic. All school districts in the surveyed area currently endorse a zero-tolerance bullying policy. After obtaining a guardian’s consent, each participant was asked a standard series of questions inquiring whether they had been bullied ever or in the past 12 months, bullied someone else, or witnessed bullying. Details including category, location, and action taken were also collected.

Of the 101 study participants, 80% reported having been bullied at some point in their lifetime and 49% in the past year. The most common form of bullying was emotional/verbal, which was reported by 77 participants. 43 participants reported they had been victims of physical bullying. 25 participants reported cyber bullying and 11 reported sexual bullying. Of the 81 patients who reported experiencing bullying, 52% were male and 48% were female. The study population was 75% Caucasian, 11% African American, 7% biracial, and 7% other. The bullied population was 80% Caucasian, 11% African American, 4% biracial, and 5% other. When asked where at school bullying occurs the most, responses were as follows: 23% playground, 21% classroom, 20% hallway, 13% lunchroom, 11% restroom, and 13% somewhere else. 66.3% of participants reported never having bullied someone and 74% of participants responded that they would intervene if they saw someone getting bullied. 67 participants reported that they had previously acted against bullying, and 37% of these stated nothing happened as a result of their action. 22% of participants got the bully to stop and 13% got them to stop temporarily. 16% reported that their bully got in trouble, but 9% reported they themselves got in trouble after taking action.

Despite zero-tolerance policies in place, a significant portion of bullied students reported that no action was taken even after reporting their bully. The threat of suspension or expulsion for the child accused may prevent school staff from taking these reports more seriously. Evidence-based methods, such as Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, are recommended to prevent bullying victimization. Many of these methods focus on creating a safe, inclusive environment by positively reinforcing expected behavior. There is also substantial evidence that educational programs can be successful in bullying reduction. As demonstrated by the results of this study, zero-tolerance policies alone are not sufficient bullying prevention. Revision to current policy is necessary to protect students in schools.

This is a case report highlighting the side effect of suicidal ideation with lemborexant, a novel agent approved for the treatment of insomnia. A 22-year-old man received care at an outpatient psychiatrist for the treatment of major depressive disorder, persistent depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social phobia, and insomnia. The patient also has a diagnosis of Loeys-Dietz syndrome, a connective tissue disorder. Following numerous medication trials for both depression and insomnia that resulted in partial remission of mood symptoms without improvement in sleep, he was initiated on lemborexant to address insomnia. He was noted to be denying suicidal ideation at the appointment when lemborexant was prescribed. The patient did not take lemborexant until three days after the appointment, at which time he took the recommended dose of 5 mg at bedtime for insomnia. The patient experienced drowsiness immediately following taking this dose; however, he woke up two hours later with new-onset suicidal ideation. The patient was brought to the hospital for this complaint, and the following evening had attempted suicide by hanging in his hospital room. Laboratory investigations showed normal findings in blood chemistries, complete blood count, thyroid stimulating hormone, vitamin B12 level, vitamin D level, and urine illicit drug screening. Differential diagnosis includes acute reaction to insomnia, medication-induced side effect, and major depressive disorder. He had completed trials for insomnia with zolpidem, hydroxyzine, quetiapine, nortriptyline, and trazodone prior to beginning lemborexant. The patient had no history of suicide attempts in the past, but did experience suicidal ideation following a trial of nortriptyline. In the hospital, the lemborexant was discontinued, and clonidine and clonazepam were initiated at bedtime to address insomnia and ruminative thoughts. The patient was discharged with follow-up at his outpatient psychiatrist after his suicidal ideation was in remission, as well as noted improvement in insomnia. This case highlights new-onset suicidal ideation with subsequent suicide attempt after first use of lemborexant in a patient with major depressive disorder. This case is important given lemborexant is a new medication with limited information about its efficacy and safety in major psychiatric disorders.

Modern college students are faced with multiple pressures, leading to an increasing incidence of anxiety incidence rate. Traditional teaching models may not achieve ideal results in response to the special needs of such students. The spirit of moving westward, as a valuable experience in the history of New China, represents the spiritual core of overcoming difficulties and striving hard. The study will explore how to combine the “spirit of westward migration” with practical teaching to cultivate students’ psychological resilience and promote their healthy growth.

The study focused on 90 students with anxiety disorder and randomly divided them into an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group students adopted the “spirit of moving westward” to integrate into the practical teaching of university education courses, while the control group students adopted traditional teaching methods. The study used the Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA) to evaluate the intervention of anxiety disorders in students.

Before the experiment, there was no significant difference in anxiety scores between the two groups of students (P>0.05); After the experiment, the anxiety symptoms of the experimental group students were significantly improved and significantly lower than those of the control group students (P<0.05).

The integration of the “spirit of westward migration” into practical teaching of higher education courses can alleviate students’ anxiety symptoms and have a positive effect on their learning and physical and mental health.
