Summary

Account of Michael of Canterbury, master mason of the building works at St Stephen's chapel, for his weekly (and fortnightly) expenditure on wages and building materials, from 15 Jan. to 2 Sept. 1296, with large gaps (see table 9).

Physical description: A roll of five rotulets sewn together at the top; rots. 1–3 and 5 are soiled but legible; rot. 4 is heavily stained and torn at the top on both sides and on the bottom left side, with loss of text. The roll was probably once part of E 101/468/6 (no. 1): it was written in the same format, and the initial rotulet bears the medieval rotulet number 162, continuing the previous sequence.

Scope of transcription: Like no. 1, the accounts contain payments for other works at the palace of Westminster, in addition to the chapel works – notably on the buttress of Marculf 's chamber – but only payments for works relating to the chapel have been included.
