Summary
Human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) is an infectious disease affecting the immune system [3–5]. It was first described in 1981 and has become over the years one of the most devastating diseases in humankind. The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is the causative agent of acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). Around the world, 38 million people were living with HIV at the end of 2019 (World Health Organization (WHO) Statement). About 33 million people have died.
