Summary
Account roll (compotus) of William of Kelsey, king's clerk of works at the palace of Westminster and Tower of London, for his receipts and expenses in building works, with a store account on m. 2d.
Physical description: A roll of nine membranes sewn end-to-end; in good condition and wholly legible.
Scope of transcription: The total receipts and the expenses relating to the chapel have been included, but also a number of memoranda recording customary working practices. The store account has not been included here, but has been collated with the very similar store account in no. 21.

Compotus Willelmi de Kelleseye clerici operacionum domini nostri Regis in palacio ipsius Regis Westmonasterij et in Turri sua London’ cui idem dominus Rex per litteras suas patentes in hec verba. Edwardus dei gracia Rex Anglie Dominus Hibernie et Dux Aquitanie omnibus ad quos presentes littere pervenerint salutem. Sciatis quod concessimus dilecto clerico nostro Willelmo de Kelleseye officium essendi clericus noster operacionum nostrarum ﹛in palacio﹜ in palacio nostro Westmonasterij et in Turri nostra London’ habendo quamdiu bene et fideliter se gesserit in officio illo percipiendo pro eodem officio talia feoda et vadia qualia Willelmus de Chaillou qui officium illud nuper habuit percepit in eodem. In cuius rei testimonium has litteras nostras fieri fecimus patentes. Teste me ipso apud Coventre tercio die Januarij anno regni nostri secundo. Officium illud commisit de denariis per ipsum Willelmum de Kelleseye ad scaccariam dicti domini Regis receptis super officio suo predicto inter dictum tercium diem Januarij anno supradicto et secundum diem Augusti anno regni eiusdem domini Regis tercio quo die idem Willelmus predictum officium una cum aliis officium illud tangentibus que in custodia sua tunc exciterant Johanni de Feriby clerico pretextu cuiusdam mandati dicti domini Regis prefato Willelmo de Kelleseye inde directi liberavit et de misis et expensis per eundem Willelmum de Kelleseye inde factis infra predictum tempus per visum et testimonium domini Ricardi de Kenbrok’ clerici contrarotulatoris operacionum predictarum.

Memorandum quod die jovis proximo sequenti fuit festum Purificacionis beate Marie pro quo die nulla predictis operariis solvuntur vadia quamvis ipsi ex consuetudine antiquitus ut dicunt usitata pro quolibet alio die festo ipsis in servicio Regio continue residentibus accidente diebus dominicis dumtaxat exceptis sicuti pro die operabili vadia petunt et clamant sibi solvi ut patet inferius ubi dicta consuetudo latius declaratur.
