An unusual combination of three types of interatrial communications – coronary sinus defect, primum defect, and secundum defect – occurring together in a 3-year-old child is presented.

Modified Blalock–Taussig shunt thrombosis is a life-threatening event. We describe an extremely rare catheter-induced shunt thrombosis in an infant with complex CHD and its successful treatment utilising a single low dose of local recombinant tissue plasminogen activator in conjunction with balloon angioplasty.

Acute coronary syndrome is a cause of cardiac-induced chest pain and rarely seen among childhood. It should be kept in mind in patients presenting with typical chest pain with a history of CHD and/or surgery, as this will lead to life-threatening complications and death. We present an adolescent with a history of Bentall operation who had acute coronary syndrome owing to coronary thrombosis as a result of inappropriate drug use.

This report describes a 3-year-old infant with post-operative mediastinitis complicated by a contained rupture of the right ventricle. A contained rupture is recognised as the huge pulsating prominence of the anterior chest wall. CT confirmed blood communication between the right ventricular outflow tract and the cavity surrounded by the pectoral major musculocutaneous flap. This is a significant case in which severe adhesion between the right ventricle and the musculocutaneous flap could maintain her stable haemodynamics with a pulsating prominence.

Patients with Williams syndrome often present with abnormalities of the vascular wall of the aorta and/or the pulmonary artery. Surgery may result in restenosis of the affected vessel. Herein, we report a case of an infant with multiple recurrences of aortic coarctation successfully treated with Zotarolimus drug-eluting stent.

Left ventricular pseudoaneurysm is very rare in children. Although surgery is conventional treatment, recently, percutaneous closure of pseudoaneurysms has been described. Here, we present the first case where a patient developed left ventricular pseudoaneurysm after percutaneous ventricular septal defect device closure and was treated by a second percutaneous method.

Anomalous origin of a branch pulmonary artery from the aorta is a rare malformation, accounting for 0.12% of all congenital heart defects. We present the case of a 43-year-old man with an anomalous origin of the right pulmonary artery (AORPA) from the ascending aorta. Reimplantation of the right pulmonary artery was carried out successfully, with favourable evolution in the medium-term follow-up. It is the first described case that receives corrective treatment in adulthood with a favourable evolution.

A 16-year-old girl with history of treated congenital mitral valve disease and signs of respiratory infection was admitted to our paediatric cardiology department. She was tested positive for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. Despite her severe pre-existing cardiac conditions with pulmonary hypertension, atrial arrhythmias and mitral valve stenosis, the infection did not lead to any cardiac or pulmonary deterioration. In adults, cardiac co-morbidities are known risk factors for a severe course of coronavirus disease 2019 infections. This case illustrates that in children even severe cardiac disease is not necessarily associated with a severe course of coronavirus disease 2019.

A 10-month-old girl underwent patent ductus arteriosus closure with an Amplatzer Duct Occluder II. After 1 week, she was admitted to our emergency room with tachypnoea, fatigue, and fever. Consecutive blood cultures yielded vancomycin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus. The patient was already receiving vancomycin, but the fever did not respond to this treatment. The device was successfully removed via left lateral thoracotomy.

Isolated aortic regurgitation and myocardial infarction are a rare congenital defect among neonatal patients. We present a case of a neonate with an unusual aortic valve morphology causing both regurgitation and obstruction of the left coronary artery ostium. Despite both non-invasive and invasive imaging modalities, accurate diagnosis of the valve morphology was only determined by direct visualisation at the time of surgical repair. To the knowledge of authors, this particular aortic valve morphology in neonatal population has not been previously reported in the literature.

Anomalous circumflex coronary artery origin from pulmonary artery is a very rare congenital heart disease. Misdiagnosis of this condition may lead to inadequate myocardial protection during cardiopulmonary bypass surgery.

Left atrial appendage membrane is a rare anomaly. Its implications on clinical course are unknown. We report the first paediatric case in association with a congenital heart disease.

Aortic arch aneurysm or pseudoaneurysm is a rare complication early after coarctation repair in the neonatal period. We report the case of a newborn with a ventricular septal defect and aortic coarctation with a hypoplastic aortic arch that developed a large aortic arch pseudoaneurysm following a radically extended end-to-end coarctation repair. Successful surgical correction of the pseudoaneurysm was performed.

Aneurysm formation around the site of coarctation of aortic arch is a well-recognised complication of untreated coarctation and is associated with an increased risk of aortic rupture and mortality. We present a rare case in a teenage girl with the combination of significant aortic arch coarctation, a “cauliflower-like” saccular aneurysm, and stenosis at the origin of the left subclavian artery. She was successfully managed with a hybrid approach, which is a combination of an endovascular surgical repair (a bypass graft placement from left carotid artery to subclavian artery by a vascular surgeon) and a transcatheter covered stent placement across the stenosis and aneurysm. This case highlights the successful role of a hybrid approach in patient’s who present with a combination of coarctation of the aorta and aortic arch aneurysms. This approach avoids the conventional surgical aortoplasty, which carries a higher mortality and morbidity risk in teenage patients.

Vessel occlusion is a frequently used procedure to close congenital or acquired collaterals or communications. We report two cases of successful vessel closure, in small infants with CHD, using the Azur CX Peripheral Coil System. The low profile of the device, the controlled delivery of the coils, and the delivery through a microcatheter make it particularly interesting for the occlusion of highly tortuous vessels in children.

Tetralogy of fallot is rarely associated with anomalous left coronary artery connection to main pulmonary artery. High index of suspicion is needed preoperatively to diagnose this association and treat successfully. We present a case of 9-year-old boy with the rare association of tetralogy of fallot and anomalous left coronary artery connection to pulmonary artery with a giant steal intercoronary collateral crossing right ventricular outflow tract who was treated successfully by single-stage surgical correction.

A 16-year-old Caucasian male was diagnosed with recurrent infective endocarditis associated with his second Melody valve placed inside a previously treated infected Melody valve. The replacement of Melody valve after the first infective endocarditis episode might increase the risk of the second episode of infective endocarditis.

A combination of aortic valve atresia and an interrupted aortic arch is a unique disease in which perfusion to the brain and myocardium depends on coexisting lesions or type of interruption. We report a case of aortic valve atresia with type B interrupted arch, bilateral arterial ductus in a neonate who was successfully palliated using a hybrid approach by placing stents in both arterial ductus and banding of branch pulmonary arteries.

Aortopulmonary window with interrupted aortic arch is rarely reported beyond infancy. Pre-operative assessment and surgical repair are challenging. We report successful surgical repair of aortopulmonary window with interrupted aortic arch in a 6-year-old girl with near-normal pulmonary artery pressure immediately following surgery.
