Achrysocharis phenacapsia n. sp. (Eulophidae: Chalcidoidea) reared from Phenacapsis pinifolia (Diaspididae: Homoptera) collected at Riverside, Calif., is described and illustrated.

Wandering of Cryptolestes ferrugineus (Stephens) larvae was demonstrated in the laboratory among wheat kernels at 30 °C and 15.5% moisture content, initially infested at an adult density of 0.4 adult per gram of wheat. The majority of the wandering larvae were first (37.3%) and fourth (56.0%) instars.

Procedures are outlined for evaluating in aquaria the effects of insecticides against rheophilic species of Trichoptera larvae (Brachycentrus lateralis (Say), Hydropsyche morosa Hagen, and H. recurvata Banks). In general DDT, DDD, and methoxychlor were considerably more toxic than were malathion, Baytex®, or diazinon and their regression lines were steeper. Some of the methoxychlortreated larvae recovered within 18 hours after treatment but the reverse was true for DDT, DDD, and the organophosphates. DDT dissolved in ethanol was considerably more toxic than any of the three commercial formulations of DDT tested. Sensitivity to DDT declined (i.e.LC50 values were higher) with increasing size (age) of the larvae. LC50 values of DDT also varied directly with the densities of tested populations in tests containing more than 10 larvae per 250 ml of water. Toxicities of all chlorinated hydrocarbons varied indirectly with the temperature and those of the organophosphates directly. The significance of these findings to laboratory and field tests is discussed.

Three species of Pycnopsyche occur in West Creek, the larvae inhabiting allochthonous organic materials. The rapid growth, and early aestivation and emergence of the rarest species, P. scabripennis (Rambur), diminishes interspecific interactions between larvae. P. gentilis (McLachlan) and P. luculenta (Betten) are contemporaneous and the larvae are similar in size but differ in case materials and habitat preferences. Adult males of each species differ in the peak time of arrival at light when active on the same night. The life history and behaviour patterns are discussed in relation to the coexistence of congeneric species.

Stemmatosteres kuchari n. sp. from Alberta, Canada, is described and illustrated.

The sex ratios of codling moth winter larvae, adults, and summer larvae changed inversely with codling moth density changes in commercial orchards over a 17-year period.

Alate and apterous viviparous females, ovipara and alate male of a new species of aphid, Macrosiphum jeanae, are described from a pitcher plant, Sarracenia purpurea L.
