  • The subject falls conveniently into two parts, (I) comment made during the century since McNaghten's Case in 1843 on the answers given by the judges to the questions put to them by the House of Lords, and (II) discussion of the defence of irresistible impulse. For the convenience of readers the Questions and Answers are reprinted from the tenth volume of Clark and Finnelly's Keports, 200, 209–212.

  • In the last issue of this Journal we announced the formation by the Faculty Board of Law of a committee to consider the promotion of research and teaching in criminal science. That the enterprise thus initiated was felt to satisfy a need was proved by the general welcome which was accorded to the committee both here and overseas, and the success which the committee's projects achieved was recognized by the University when it placed the study of this subject in Cambridge on a permanent footing by the establishment in December last of the Department of Criminal Science, by which the original Committee has now been replaced.
