Electron Microscopy image processing methods for Structural Biology 2024

Cryo-electron microscopy is a well-established technique to elucidate the three-dimensional structure of biological macromolecules, isolated or in their cellular environment. The field is rapidly growing thanks to advances in sample preparation, electron optics, direct electron detectors, and image processing algorithms. This latter topic is an exciting scientific discipline where new mathematical concepts and procedures result in a constant advance in the possibilities of reaching high resolution, characterizing the dynamical features of biological macromolecules, and their interactions.

Biological Imaging (Cambridge Univ. Press) is an open access journal dedicated to the algorithmic advances of image processing algorithms especially applied to biological problems. Acknowledging the growing importance of Cryo-Electron Microscopy, the journal will dedicate a yearly special issue to new algorithms, programs, public image databases, or any other related work. Novel papers on Single Particle Analysis, Electron Crystallography, Electron Tomography, Micro Electron Diffraction, and other applications of electron microscopes to solve Structural Biology problems will be considered.

The call for papers is decomposed into two stages. In the first phase, a white paper (free format) with a maximum of 2 pages must be submitted. Upon pre-selection, a full paper can be submitted. The information for authors for the full paper can be found at https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/biological-imaging/information/instructions-authors. The white paper must not be sent through the journal manuscript system, but directly to [email protected].
