  • ספר הזוהר מסמן את שיאה של הספרות התיאורגית-תיאוסופית ומתאפיין בחשיבה אנתרופומורפית שמדגישה את השפעת הגוף והארוס על מערכת האלוהות ויחסי הספירות. בדומה להנכחת הגוף בפרקסיס ובריטואל הקבלי, עולם ההלכה מתמקד אף הוא בידע הביצועי שטמון בגוף ונטוע בהקשרים של מין ומגדר. האתיקה והמיסטיקה אינן ניתנות להבנה מתוך עיון תיאורטי גרידא, שכן הידע המיסטי "הטהור," בדומה ל"חוק האידיאלי," אינם מתגלים כשלעצמם, אלא נחשפים מבעד למקרים פרטיים וקונפליקטואלים, ועל כן ניתן להציע כי המערכת הקבלית וההלכתית מבטאת כל אחת בדרכה "אתיקה ומיסטיקה בפעולה."

  • בוויכוח שבין היהודים לנוצרים בימי הביניים, אחת הטענות המרכזיות שעלו מן הצד הנוצרי הייתה כי חורבנה הפוליטי של המדינה היהודית מהווה הוכחה ברורה לכך שהאל עזב את היהדות ומאס בה. התשובות היהודיות השונות לביקורת זו ולהתמודדות עם הגלות היו בדרך כלל נתינת הצדקה דתית כל שהיא לגלות (בחלק ניכר מן המקרים כפרה על חטאי העבר), ולצדה ציפייה לישועה פוליטית בעידן המשיחי.
