Summary
We have begun by discussing how, when investigating the problem of human violence, we often encounter a sense of pessimism concerning several aspects of it. This chapter focuses on what we understand to be some of the roots of that attitude. At present there appears to be a consensus of opinion concerning the sources of human violence, which fosters a view that essentially, it is inescapable, as it emanates from fundamental features of us, often collectively referred to as ‘human nature’.
