Summary
This section examines changes that are taking place in the ways in which literature is brought to the reader. It considers a number of key developments and future scenarios that may impact on reader development. As such the chapters and their content are varied in scope and range.
First there is a detailed analysis of the development of e-books, followed by a review of the impact that alternative formats and distribution methods are having on the traditional book and its communities. The third chapter considers the challenges, opportunities and rewards facing the traditional owner-run bookshop today. A final chapter reflects upon the role of academics and practitioners in guaranteeing that issues and developments within the field of reader development are taught to future professionals.
