Summary
This system was developed by consulting a variety of transliteration systems, including the one used at the Department of History at Addis Ababa and the systems used by past Ethiopianists, most notably Sven Rubenson and Wolf Leslau. The Ethiopic script has 33 consonants and seven vowels. Each consonant has seven orders corresponding to each vowel sound.
