Summary
To understand why we view love as we do, it is necessary (or at least useful) to understand how we came to our viewpoints. When we first began our research on love, we were newlyweds (beginning a second marriage with some life experience and heaps of idealism). In addition, we were a counseling psychologist (Susan) and a social psychologist (Clyde), trying to find an area of work that would be practical (Susan conducted couple therapy in her private practice) and empirically rigorous (Clyde was a seasoned scholar).
