Summary
In the previous chapter, we have seen how the bestiary in the Fior di virtù could introduce the young to the virtues then deemed necessary to succeed in public life. In this chapter, I shall explore how animal illustrations in manuscripts of the Esopo volgarizzato per uno da Siena could prepare Florentines for the realities of their world by offering valuable insights on the following topics: friendship and enmity, gratitude and ingratitude, deception, envy, corruption, and the ill-judging populace.
