Today we live in an age of uncertainty. Uncertainty is no longer a philosophical concern, a struggle, which for the stoics and epicureans of the classical world, was a way to find means of living well rather than seek knowledge or wisdom for their own sake. Nor is it about the torments of religious questions and the awkwardness of human existence, which for Soren Kierkegaard, ultimately meant taking a leap of faith into the arms of God. The anguish of a bygone philosophical age is today apparent in the anxieties of uncertainty everywhere, in our relationships, in our professional lives, in our health, in our politics. Uncertainty is also more than personal and societal distrust in our political and public institutions, rather it points to a kind of fragmentation in society where our struggle for meaning has become more acute.
