Summary

This chapter introduces several general ideas from which I propose to reconstruct an account of human dignity that I hope can answer to the challenges and opportunities described in previous chapters. All of them concern the similarities and differences between the social exchanges that determine market value or “price” and those that one might implicate in human dignity understood (as I am proposing) as a socially emergent quality. Although related, they can be grouped under three headings
