Summary

Sepsis is the body’s life-threatening response to severe infection. Classification of sepsis is currently based on mortality and amount of organ dysfunction as defined by the Third International Consensus Definitions for Sepsis and Septic Shock (Sepsis-3) [1]. The World Health Organization (WHO) has added to these to incorporate the definition of maternal sepsis [2] as described in Table 39.1.
