Summary

Behind Bitcoin, there is an innovative technical design that claims to provide the equivalent of a currency and a payment system online. Its supply limited like gold, and its participation requirements provide for anonymity close to cash. Among users who strongly value such features, Bitcoin has found a niche in the markets for currencies and payments. Beyond those niches, Bitcoin’s design is unable to provide input and output legitimacy comparable to official currencies.
