Summary

Early research into the Aegean Bronze Age accepted the historicity of the Homeric epics, but more recent analyses have demonstrated that the relationship between these texts and the archaeology of the early Aegean is both imprecise and complex. Nonetheless, the legacy of the texts – and their impact on early research – continue to reverberate in diverse ways within archaeological studies of the early Aegean.
