Summary
Representation is a particular way of making something present to oneself by setting it before oneself as an object. This mode of making things present is distinctive of modernity. “Representation” becomes a technical term in Heidegger’s writings around the middle of the 1930s, and is one of the key concepts in his diagnosis of modernity as the epoch of technology.
