Subsequent to this interview, Joanne Pottlitzer told me that although the play was based on historical events, it referred directly to the political situation of Brazil in 1965, the year it was written, and that much of the dialogue was lifted from actual speeches of Castelo Branco and other prominent Brazilian political figures in power at the time.
