Comparison of meishan and white pigs for voluntary intake and digestibility of high fibre diets
Published online by Cambridge University Press: 24 November 2017
Extract
The Meishan breed has evolved in China on high fibre diets. This experiment was designed to investigate whether, in consequence, they are better able to utilise high fibre diets than modern UK hybrid pigs. This might be achieved by a higher voluntary intake to compensate for low nutrient density of diets and/or by a more efficient gut fermentation of non-starch polysaccharides.
